Why not?
Why not? Mmmm.... let me think. I sure don't miss smelling like two stroke smoke, buying expensive oil, having to add the expensive oil every morning, worrying about burning down if I get bad gas, needing to rebuild the top end after several thousand miles. Do I need to continue? I owned about a dozen new Yamaha two stroke sleds over the years and I have fond memories of many of them. I held on to my triple piped Viper as long as I could because I did not want to buy a 4 stroke Yamaha. Now that I have owned my Apex for 7 years I would never go back to any 2 stroke sled.
Good for you. All those things won't be to much for me.

I think that once you get some miles on your new Viper you may not miss the old two strokes quite as much. If they would make a Yamacat with Apex like power I would be at my dealer writing a check!

I never had a 2 stroke before, I just want a lightweight sled for those sloppy days plus I don't want a 2 stroke that isn't yamaha otherwise I would have had one by now right next to my 4 stroke!

I test rode a 2014 Viper. It felt as light and nimble as any of my old Yamaha 2 strokes did. I think you will be very happy with your new Viper and you will soon forget about wanting a Yamaha 2 stroke sled.

Yes my viper is very well balanced and I do like it, but last year I rode cats 800 in the same chassis and that sled is so much lighter and fun to ride! I was thinking about getting 2014 800 rr for the same price as i got my viper, but then I reminded my self on all the belt issues and got the viper.
Honestly, aside from Mountain riders I'm surprised that so many people want, or think they want, a 2 stroke.
I don't want to burn down. It's that simple for me. Getting stranded in Northern Maine and/or wasting the preciously short season waiting for repairs is a deal breaker. With today's ethanol fuel it seems like Russian roulette every ride.

I am going to look hard at 2015 model year, the viper is sweet and I want one I hope they come out with a faster version but honestly if the deals are right I might snow check a 2015 Viper or keep an eye out for a 14 left over. The 137 inch track and rider forward position is too convincing for me to say no. I did a lot of suspension work to my Apex this year and it is much much better but still doesn't handle rough trail breaking or beat up groomed trail as well as I was hoping.
I hear ya. I'm dying for an Apex replacement or a major redesign. My sled is still pretty mint - but I'm just ready for new. The pro cross chassis with the Apex motor would probably be an automatic buy for me.

I am tired of being smoked on rough trail.

Long overdue is for Yamaha to advance the technology of snowmobiles. Compromising the Nytro motor into an AC chassis is just that: A compromise & it's a major one at that. The Viper doesn't accell at anything nor is it unique or special in any way. It's the most lackluster 'new' sled I've ever driven & it's nothing more than an inexpensive way only to have a presence in the 130HP segment.
Yamaha needs to substantially lower the CG by lowering the engine which means 1 of 2 things: Position the engine like the Doo 4-Tecs & sacrifice throttle response or make the sled longer & sacrifice cornering.
I miss Yamaha (not AC) quality & will come back to Blue the instant if they innovate like they once did.
Let's hope we see a new, innovative sled, not a compromise, from Yamaha soon.

Not sure on positioining like the Doo! Too me that puts more weight towards the front of the sled and over the skis. I agree when looking at pics that the motor could sit lower in the viper however after reading reviews, it seems to be a non issue. If you ever take a real close look at a Nytro or Apex the motor sits about as low as your going to get it without protruding out through the bottom of the sled yet the viper handles better than both of those machines (so I hear). The way Yamaha (or cat) positions the motors really places it towards the sleds center of gravity.

I 100% agree. Check book and pen in hand!

Don't get ur hopes up for 2015 there is no dealer meeting this year just a webcast ands it's earlier than usual
that doesn't give me a good feeling about any new product out of the blue camp more than a mountain viper
oh well the attack will have to last this year and next i guess
