I have an Ulmer kit in my sled on the clutch and free air box mod otherwise stock. Has anyone tried running a taller, not shorter gear ? What I don't like is the amount of RPM it carries just cruising along it is consistently 1500 RPM higher than the Vector and it uses way more fuel. Accelerates well and just hits a wall as far as top speed goes. RPM 8800-9000. It can get that RPM and hold it there pretty well but it feels like your driving a 6 speed car that won't shift past 3rd or 4th gear. These sleds feel like they could pull more gear ? Running the 8jp belt currently
It will out accelerate my 05 Vector until probably 80ish MPH and then the Vector will slowly real it in and walk on by Viper no problem.

Has anyone tried gearing them up not down to improve MPG and top speed ? Honestly I'm more concerned with the fuel range/mpg than the top end. It gets 12.5-14.5 MPG .Vector had much better range at 18-20 mpg

Current set up per Ulmer is STM weights Tungsten7g tip, 1 washer in heel , middle empty. OYO primary spring. Ulmer K helix and silver wrapped 6-3 in secondary.

What RPM are you through the midrange at WOT? you could always move weight from the tip to the middle to bring down cruising RPM. My XTX is geared down and I see ~6800rpm @ 50mph, aggressive trail riding averages ~14mpg with my Backcountry track. I Use to get ~16mpg with the Cobra track and stock gears. Has me looking for Gas at 110 miles instead of 125 miles now.

7000-7200 RPM running 50 ish. Going on a bag trip and I know 1 section is 124 miles between gas stops so depending on snow conditions thats pushing. Buddy carries a couple extra gallons. stock track with studs

The Vector made its max power at low eight's rather than high 8's.
Therefore, it would be clutched accordingly and would also sit at lower revs while cruising.
You could try to add some weight to bring down your max rpm at high speed on the Viper and compare against the Vector.

I run 25/45 gearing. Love everything about it other than slow technical stuff like loading in trailer or off trail. I also clutched aggressively to gain back all the low end punch stock viper has. Made my sled and clutching very consistent but no big gain in mph on top. Need hp for that.

if i move that 7g tungsten to the middle hole i understand that will drop the mid range rpm a bit but because that's in the middle will I then loose the WOT max RPM as well ?
Thats where i get a bit confused as I know that total weight of the arm determines max RPM, Just not sure if moving the weight would effect that or not ?
I also tried loosening the wrap of the secondary to 6-2 to try and get it to open quicker but it made no appreciable difference.

Add about a gram or two in the middle without changing anything else.
Go for a test drive.
