I DO live in Tulsa, grew up in Colchester CT. Fly in to BDL, join my 78 year old Dad and we go ridingI only get to go 1-2 times a year, but as long as Dad's healthy (still kisses 100 on his 1200 doo and a full time charter boat captain) my son and I make the effort.
Oh wow...That's Fabulous!!! Good for you guys!!!
I'm staying at the Motor Inn in St. Agatha that week. Maybe I'll run into you at the Sporting Club, or The Lakeview restaurants that week. I gotta go pick the sled up at Gary's whether there's snow or not.. so I'll be up there either way. But Sooo hoping there's snow that week!!

Dad bought a new 72 snojet when i was 8, which became "mine" at age 14. 53 now. I started going to Caribou and riding with Duncan Haines (deceast but he was a prominent potato farmer) when I was 18. Mom grew up in Madawaska. A few years ago, I noticed dad got faster, asked him about it. He says "i got eye surgery, I can see better" funny stuff. Lots of years making memories riding w Dad.3 generations still sledding, very cool and awesome all at the same time! Hope you can keep up to Dad .lol

A friend of mine had a BLUE SnoJet. My first ride was a relatives 69 Sears and my first was a used 71 Panther.
Nice that dad has better eye sight, many are choosing to repair or improve their sight with different surgery procedures, that has come a long ways in the past so many years.
Hope you guys have a great time for your yearly outing. I am sure you all feel very welcomed when in the county, very pleasant and welcoming folk in that whole region, and the trail systems, WOW..
Do yourself a huge favor and skip the stock tuner lll set up. They make the sled very nervous or skiddish on hard trails, and refuse to turn once a couple of inches of snow falls on that hard trail. You will be trying hard to keep up! The least I would advise, is to put a set of sno trackers on if you stick with stock skis.
But anyways, enjoy your upcoming visit and be safe!

I had a buddy in my neighborhood when we were teenagers, who had two Snow Jets..a 340 and 440. The things were solid sleds back in the day..and ran great, and were fast!! This was in the mid 80's, but the Jets were from the 70's
And we're in great shape, and had a great sound, and ran tough!!
And yes...the people in the county are wonderful Folk..that's one of the reasons why I don't really ride anywhere else..along with the incredible trail system and maintenance of those trails. GREAT PLACE!!

Yes I too have many memories that date way back to the late 60s in this sport we use to call skidooing. Ah yes the clothing getting sucked in the to your carb, the kneeling on the sleds, not sitting, the knee into the unguarded primary clutch, the frozen throttles, the boggy wheel adventures, etc. the ungroomed trails
Back then when a group would stop trailside it was a challenge to get all sleds started again. Most single cylinder motors flooded or vapor locked, so removing the spark plug and heating it up prior to putting back in was a habit, unless you had a spare. Most guys kept spares and wrenches in their pockets to keep them dry. Too many different make and models to list here that is for sure.
But as the years went by small things began to make all sleds better as they all copied each other in many ways.
Cat with the all aluminum chassis and slide rail suspension.
John Deere liquid fire, electronic ignition. No more points and dwell timing.
Polaris with the fuel injection.
Yamaha, motors and primary clutch improvements.
Plastic skis ???
Twin cylinders ??
You get my drift.
So to try and somewhat stay on topic what happened with the TUNER skis?? Maybe they should come stock with sno trackers at a minimal.
They surely look as if they will work, heck I have been using dual runners on all my sleds since my wife’s new Viper 700 in 2003. The dealer was advocating duallys to prevent darting because the Viper was known for that. I put them on all 3 of our sleds that year. I have since done the same with all sleds owned, that would except them.
So by looking at the Sidewinder’s tuner lll skis and their dual runner design, I too thought they could be made to work, even though the masses disagreed.
So it is a very reasonable thought, that Yamaha is trying a different carbide set up to try and remedy the Tuners instead of replacing! Even though we know they are not, some are still hoping.
