for you guys that changed from a 21/41 to a 22/41, did you have to change the chain, my chain is an 86L and it seems too tight with a 22top gear. 2018 ltx dx comes with 21/41 gears and a 86L chain.

I remember someone saying that, if you put some miles on your sled that the chain will stretch and then the 22 will fit without adding a longer chain.
Well for me that rang true. After 1000 miles or so my chain stretched a lot, from 6 threads showing on the adjuster to only 3 showing. So the 22 fit on mine without a prob. I am not sure how many threads on adjuster showing with the 22, but I know it is much more then the stock 6 threads.

It fits, yes its tight, you have tp get it just right,a little on bottom, than same to top,it is tight enough, when you finally get it slid on,you wont have any dog leg, until it stretches, than some adjustment may be needed.for you guys that changed from a 21/41 to a 22/41, did you have to change the chain, my chain is an 86L and it seems too tight with a 22top gear. 2018 ltx dx comes with 21/41 gears and a 86L chain.

Hope you got the correct 22t hyvo top gear and not the silent chain top gear. Hyvo should fit no problem and not be too tight. You don't want to put the silent chain gear on there.
Whats the part number on the gear you are trying to use? Should be 1702-395 cat part number or 1702-491 with oil holes.

22t can be tight if the chain is newer.

Would a 33/35 helix offset the taller gear at take off and acceleration compared to the straight 35? Do I have this backwards in my mind? Can the stock engine carry the extra gearing?

Been running this combo for years. Its a good thing its a tighter fit IMO. This takes the dog leg out of the chain and as the chain stretches' it will not hit the post and rub.

I have 24/50 in my machine now. If I don't end up liking it, I'm going to try this combo next!

I m starting 22/41 this year. Lots more adjustment out of the adjustment bolt. With 21/41 I would run out of adjustment and need a new chain after 3500 miles.Been running this combo for years. Its a good thing its a tighter fit IMO. This takes the dog leg out of the chain and as the chain stretches' it will not hit the post and rub.

What is the purpose of switching to a 22t gear?
absorbs that much more slack out of the chain allowing more adjustment, slightly less dog leg, and of course, more top end.

If you replace a 21t with a 22t, especially on a chain that's stretched out. How & when will you know the chain needs replacement?absorbs that much more slack out of the chain allowing more adjustment, slightly less dog leg, and of course, more top end.
Also, I thought the 21t was good for 126mph?
The 22t should be good for another ~5MPH if you have the grunt. I guess the point of the 22t is that the chain starts out straighter and further away from that post so you have that more adjustment available.
