I have a Garrett 2860 turbo set up and from the first time I run it it burn oil on start up. I measured my oil reducer and it is .028thou. and have found it coming through the exhaust side only, the intake is clean. It seems to go away after warmup but still embarrassing. I was in a Trade Show this weekend with my sled as part of my display and when it was over there was people waiting to see it fire up. The usual blue smoke. I have about a 12-14 inch return line down to the side of the mag cover. Any input would be appreciated. Thanx guys for any help. Shad

I heard some guys talking about a scavenge oil return pump. I am not sure if this is what it is for.

I do have a restrictor fitting and I measured it .028thou. I am going to restrict it a little more I think. I returned my oil line to the mag cover about the middle left if looking at it from the right side engine. I welded in a bung and fitting for the return. I am wondering if the flywheel wont let it return at first because of where I run it. Maybe I will try returning to the timing pointer hole instead. Shad

I had the same problem and it is the seal of the turbo that was defect

I am starting to lean that way too, I might have to pull my centre cartridge this summer and see what I can do to get it repaired. Thanx for the help. Shad

I have the same thing goin on with my 2854 on my nytro, after start up she smokes for a couple minutes then clears up, then never does it again rest of the day .lost 2 lbs of boost also, hope its a seal.
Mine is returning to the timing pointer, does the same thing as yours. I spoke with Alpine, they dont use a restricter @ all in the supply side, drain hose is 3/8, but its runs to the valve cover. I was thinking about draining to the center of the mag housing, guess thats no better. Like you said, only does it @ idle/warm up.

If the turbo isn't new its probably the seals. You can buy a Garrett rebuild kit pretty cheap on Ebay. The oil return line needs to be at least 5/8" as well.
