I want to gear down at least 1 tooth. I have an Apex RTX with reverse. I've herd 23-38 is working good. Does anyone have any experience with 40 on the bottom working better? I know the bottom reverse gear is high priced but speed costs money. If anyone has any good suggestions I would appreciate them. Thanks.

I like that I geared down one tooth on top to a 23.
Potentially less friction if you were to go to a 40 tooth on the bottom instead.
That decision is largely based on cost
around $30 for the top 23 tooth gear
and around $120 + a $20 bearing to do the 40 tooth

$100 includes bearing for a 42 from microbelmont. Note though that a 42 definitely requires a 72 link chain when running 23/24/25 on top. 40 on bottom will fit with 23 or 24 tooth top in stock 70 link chain.
