I put 48 studs in my apex 2 in every other row just looking for traction on ice and stopping. Is this going to be a problem?

Had 96 in mine and would bend them often. Not enough.
Added more and no more bending. This was on a long track also.

48 not a good idea. 96 minimum IMO. 144 ideal

With the power of the Apex, I wouldn't consider anything less than 144 studs. I used to own a Vector and initially installed 96 studs, but I found I had to replace too many due to them bending and breaking. I added 48 more for an even 144 and I no longer had an issue.

Running too few studs puts too much pressure on them.

I run 108 in my Attak, 2 every window with no problems. Not looking for drag racing, works fine for handling and ice. Never lost or bent one.

Sounds like I need a few more studs.

Thanks

rule of thumb is 1 stud per horsepower and that's what i always went by on my sleds with no issues. The previous owner only had 2 singles every row and I would find some bent so i switched to a 2-4-2-4 (2 singles then 2-doubles) pattern with no more issues.

I'd think you'd rip them out with the apex power and not enough studs. JMO

Took your advice and added 96 more just like you suggested. Thanks

I ran 162 in 3 long track's I've had. Never an issue. I used Woody's recommened pattern and studs. gold Diggers..put 10000 on one track/stud combo before selling it.

1/hp is what I go by as well, but I usually never put less then 144 (3-3-3-3 or 2-4-2-4) in a short track 120hp sled as its better to have too many then not enough.
