What is everyone using for oil? I used the Yamaha recomended oil at the 500mi oil change but was going to switch to Amsoil 0W40 when I do my next change because I can get it cheaper through a buddy of mine. Any thoughts to how good there oil is?

Any 0w-30 or 5w-30 oil will be just fine. You will be really hard pressed to find a "bad" oil.

I am about to do my first 500 mile change also. I bought Mobile 1 and my dealer snapped at me and said no way not until after 3000 miles should I ever consider running that in there, if ever. He said that most of the oil using RX-1's were aftermarket oils and some of the Suzuki crotch rocket bikes are the same. They don't like the M1 untill later in their life. I will be sticking with the Yamaha 4S for the first few changes. They are straight shooters and he is too far away for me to go and buy Yamaha 4S from him. This means he is not trying to sell me oil he is telling me his service views. I can get 4S 2 miles from my house (and he knows that) and my dealer is 25 miles away. Doug

the Apex motor and the 05 RX-1 motor should have 0w 30 in them. They have a differnent ring design and Ymaha swithced to 0w 30 in them.
Man better call up GM and tell them to stop putting it in the new Zo6!

They switched 0w30 in 05 for better extreme cold starting. If you live where subzero (F) temps are rarely hit them 5w30 would be fine

I'm on my third year in my 04 Warrior using Mobil 1. Put it in at 1500 miles and I now have 6500 trouble free miles

Amsoil is the best. Look at the comparison on their web site.....................beats Mobil 1 by a long shot.

By comparison though did you check Mobil 1 websites for their findings?

I just came from their site and didnt find any comparison test. If there product was not being represented correctly by the Amsoil people there would be a lawsuit so that leaves me to believe the Amoils tests must be accurate. The Amsoil does indeed beat the mobil 1 in a lot of the tests.

how much oil does the apex take? may pick some up to put on the shelf. I may not see 500 miles unles I get some snow.
I contacted mobile to ask them about this. After a couple of e-mails back and forth It's a mystery. they would not give me a definitive answer .They make a 5-30 for cars but it's not for high rpm's . they make a 10-40 for bikes ,but how about the cold starts? I'm going with Amsoil for my next change.

I'm using Mobil 1, 0W-40. Pumps down to -65 degrees and you can bye it anywhere for $5-$6 a QT.
I have also used Amsoil another great oil, Remember that any Synthetic is a much better lubricant than petroleum based or blended oils.
With Synthetic you can also greatly extend your oil change intervals! I change mine once a year, and I have been doing it for the past 12 years in Trucks, Cars, ATV's, Motorcycles, and Snowmobiles without any issues.
Synthetics are better lubricants,
longer change intervals,
much better in extreme cold and heat,
engines last longer with Synthetics

No arguement here synthetics are by far a better lubricant than dino products. Either one of these oils is going to be more than enough to cover the engine for the season. I do the same with my vehicles once a year and dont worry about them. I do them all in the fall.
