Engine Oil?

05's came with the 0w-30, makes sense to me.

Properly break it in, and change it when it is supposed to be changed, and it will be just fine. Mine has yet to use a drop of oil after the first 1000 miles.

Best place to buy? The dealer. 4 quarts is less than $20, but the filter will run ya. Good news is, it is good for 12,000 miles after breakin.

Oil is cheap compared to other things we do to our sleds. Right now it costs over $23 to fill up my gas tank, and I have to do that a couple times a day. Does it really make sense to use cheap oil to save $5 or $10? The same goes for the filter. I ALWAYS use a Yamaha filter. O.K., so it costs around $6 more than a Napa filter. I think $6 a year is pretty cheap. And don't go with the 12,000 mile filter change crap...that is just dumb. Do you think thats good for the reliabilty of the engine? They must be thinking that these engines are disposable, since you won't find an RX that would last the 50,000+ miles an R-1 engine will go. but I plan to do whatever I can to see just how long an RX chassis will last.

Ok, with the Amsoil 0w40, it's designed for bikes and quads (with clutches) the Amsoil 0w30 is automotive oil, can it be used in the RX1, and can it cause problems with the starter clutch??

The Amsoil 0w40 four stroke oil is designed for these sleds and it states right on the bottle it is good for wet clutch systems.

I have used Mobile 1 oil in my 03 RX1 since my first oil change and now i have over 5 thousand miles on it and with NO problems and as soon as my Attak need an oil change i will also run Mobile 1.
Three years running can`t go wrong ,It works great..
