With 5000 miles on my Rx, I plan to go thru the skid (bushings, hyfax, bogeys) and check for other failures. Does anyone know if it will be necessary to replace the bogey wheels and axel wheels or if the bearings can be changed in them? If the bearings can be changed - do you know the part numbers? I will also change the front axel bearings and the jackshaft bearings at the same time. Numbers for those? Any help will be appreciated. ty

change out all of the bearings you mention, as well as the jackshaft bearing. update it to the 04 style collar and nut. the 2 outside axel wheels are sealed(thanks yamaha) and are garbage when the bearing is shot, so you will need 2 new wheels. rear axel bearings are 6004 i believe but check to be sure. 6 idlers are 6205. 2 small top guide wheels are 6204. make sure the new axel wheels are not sealed so bearings can be changed in future.i change all skid bearings every year with the slides, cheap and easy and one less thing to screw up a ride.

Duane, you have any problems or mechanical failures on your RX yet?
You know, the usual stuff: broken W arms, burning oil, ect...
Hebi

Hebi, I have had no problems with the RX yet. I did change the hyfax at 1100 miles but in hindsight that may have been a bit premature. This is my first Yamaha and I wasn't sure. There was a lot of talk back in 03 about how little mileage guys were getting out of theirs. I've had this set on for 3900 miles and I do think it's time to change them now. As I have posted in other threads, I have never had to add any oil. I'm very happy with this sled. I DID put a pair of 2.3 straight rate springs on the front and the longer sway bar arms. That improved the handling immensely.

Good to hear, Duane.
The way that some people on here have talked about their problems with the '03 and '04 RX-1s, it made it seem like they were all a POS.
I just might have to seriously consider getting an '03 or '04 RX-1 if I can manage to find a good used one with low miles and a fair price...

Duane,
Do you stay at the Safari hotel in Shawinagan, QC.? I think I met you at that hotel in 2003 the first time I stayed there.

Duane and Hebi,

I have 4500 miles on my 03 and the only thing I have done is grease the skid and change the oil at the specified intervals. I did have the dealer check the jack shaft bearing at the beginning of the season and it was fine. They replaced the 03 version with the 04 version. Nothing else has broken or been replaced.

Duane---
The W-arm will need a close inspection, paint missing around the welds is a sign of stress--look for cracks starting..I just had to replace mine (5800 miles). along with the track, when it broke it took out almost all the clips and the inside drive cogs....my limiter straps were waisted also..Maxx Perf sells thicker ones..All the bushings in the front and rear suspension will be shot....My sled lives in a heated shop and gets a bath and a grease after every ride and all the bushings were shot...

Yes Jim we do stay at the Motel Safari - been going there for 7 yrs now. But it's getting like St. Donat or St. Zenon this year (perhaps because of the lack of snow in the states). I also met "Flipper" and "Almost" there this winter - cool dudes.

bearings

you should change your jack shaft bearind and update the coller as well at this time (6606k) and you drive shaft bearing sins your right there (as205d1) i change all skid and shaft bearing before each winter you would be suprised how much rust and water are ib those bearings. i even remove one seal on new bearings and put grease in them as i have found that lots of bearings can with no grease in then at all :ORC that was a wake up call :o its just one more step after all all it takes to ruin a weeked is a bad bearing abd we run at a low speed cruse here is about 70 mph average 100 mph for miles (kind off hard on bearings lots of heat build up) ;)!
