900 miles per belt

Quick question on belt topic.

So sled was in heated garage. I was getting it ready for the next trip. 1900miles on belt. Maybe I'll try a new one, whatever.
So I go to put new 8jp on. I swear to God the new belt is two inches shorter. (Exaggerating) but it did not go on easy at all. Is that typical of the fitment. I don't think anyone here would have been able to do it Trailside.
Opened secondary, belt dropped down. I couldn't rotate the secondary to finish install.
I have seen this ALOT when going from one belt to the next on exact same belt.. Matter fact my last 8dn i felt was a smidge shorter then previous.. I noticed it just like your saying putting belt on.. I would not worry to much. Myself i plan on dropping a new 8dn at start of every season

Thanks for reply Jon. It took me by surprise.

Maybe be best to have a used belt as a spare. It goes on so easy.
I'm glad I found out in the garage vs Trailside.

enemies of the belt...we all know of the flat spotted rollers...and obviously the big three ctc, offset and par.... as discussed here...but also:

heavy traction ( would be interesting to know who is studded heavy or big lug track and blowing or not) load from weight or depth of terrain....gear down...

if you are a bigger guy...gear down...

Stiction....primary bushing on pin....clearance.....helix bushing...casting flash on secondary hanging up...

load on the drivetrain i.e. drivers out...too much chain tensioner pressure...bad bearings

regardless of the cause of belt blowing...

heat is the biggest enemy...get more venting in and more importantly out ! and help the belt live....

another thing that works...side panel mount a computer fan blowing on the clutch wired in to a switch and have a fan blowing on the clutch and belt with additional exit..

I just got off the phone with My dealer. Yamaha is giving me a new side panel under warranty (belt went thru it).

For the first time ever(in my situation), Yamaha admitted that there is a problem with sidewinders blowing belts. The head tech from Yamaha corporate advised me not to put the new panel on till next year. He said for next season, there will be an update done to the sidewinder clutching, but my dealer is unsure of what exactly this will consist of.

I'm just wondering what the fix is? I'll be staying tuned.

I bet a simple fix. Given the info.

I guess i am lucky with my Sidewinder XTX, 1500 miles on original belt with vert little dust. Thunder Products clutching

THIS......."Yamaha admitted that there is a problem with sidewinders blowing belts. The head tech from Yamaha corporate advised me not to put the new panel on till next year"......after dumping $17k ish on a new sled. That's nuts. A sled is only as fast as it's belt

I'm glad this post was reignited.
I looked at the motor mounts and although not "impossible" to move, not an easy chore. It would take elongating the holes & installing a mount to push & keep the motor over. So i'm stuck at 262.5mm.
I believe a shimm could be installed to help parallel if needed.
I will shave 2.5mm off my secondary, add vents, continue taking Yoga & see when it blows. The next belt will be changed before that number.
SIMPLE!

P.S. Taking Yoga will NOT help my belts, but thinking of cute flexible girls in Yoga pants helps me to deal with a situation that i firmly believe is fixable & should have been addressed by Yamaha

it's about time yamaha steps up and fixes this issue..it's really too bad that spending $20k plus on these sleds and having these kinds of problems..most of us are on our second or soon to be third season would be nice to hear of some fixes.

I stand firm on this - whoever invented yoga pants deserves the Nobel Prize.
