Hey I cleaned the carbs on my dads 98 v-max and when i went to start it the thing just sounds like its hitting on 1 cyl. Turns out both have spark and both are hitting at basically the same time. I know the carb and jets are good and clean, I hooked all the wiring up again, fuel lines, cables, etc. Anyone have a clue whats wrong. It just bogs when I give it throttle. Oh yeah and Its got fresh gas. Tried different plugs, pretty much every trick i could think of. Anyone have any idea's?

You may have a problem with the tors. Try connecting the two wires together at the sled side of the carb switch and see if it runs properly.

Werent those known for catching a ring on the port?Do a compression check.

YES THEY WERE! I had '97 XT 600 that wiped out a cylinder by doing that, and my dad had a 99 VMAX 500 that did the exact same thing. Those motors were notorius for that up around 5-6000 miles. If that's the case, when you rebuild the top end, chamfer the edge of the ports a bit!

Check your throttle cable free-play...sounds like you've got it too tight and it's activating the TORS. Make sure the cable is seated correctly in the throttle block (on the bars) as well.
