A-arm bolt came out

Riding along Saturday night and noticed ski was sitting funny. Did not hit anything. Got home and found out that the right side a arm bolt had loosend and only thing holding the a arm was the now bent bolt.

I am new to the Nytro and pay attention to this site to learn what to look and watch out for. I had not seen this issue it on here yet but when I googled it I found other forum sites stating a yamaha bulletin on this issue. Just a heads up for the newbies like me. Check that bolt...loctite

same thing happened to me over the weekend and it ended up coming off the spindle completely....also gouged out the hole on the top of the spindle where the bolt goes through....lucky I was not going fast when it happened

Yes there was a recall on the 09s on that right side upper A arm bolt. It turns out there was a burr on the subframe from the manufacturing process. It wouldn't allow the bolt to fully seat when installed and eventually the bolt would loosen and back out. The fix was to remove the burr and use red loctite.

The recall was too late in my case and mine backed out and nearly caused an accident. When I took it to the Dealer (before recall was issued), they refused warranty. Needless to say, they are not my Dealer anymore.

Was yours an 09? If so, was the recall performed?

Whoa, that's not cool, and I can understand why they're no longer your dealer, though of course that's pretty much par for the course with Yamaha. Deny, deny, deny, until there are so many complaints that denial is futile.

Mine came out as well before the recall, but it just forced me to do trail side repair and i was on my way.

Learned this first hand last week... Burned off my stock slides on my new Nytro xtx on a 160 mile ride in good snow conditions (12"+ of fresh powder)... Dealer didn't see anything that could've caused it (track tension,etc) Yamaha refuses to admit they have a design flaw on the xtx skid that contributes to excessive slide wear. It's sad to see that the fix was easy as some used 1990's polaris idler wheels at the tip in the rail. Typical big corporation, don't admit there is a problem until the cost of fixing the product is less than defending your product. [/quote]

Mine is an 2010 and it was on the right side as well...Iam still under warranty...I wonder if it would be covered or will they blame it on me...lol

Mine is a 09 xtx also. Not sure if the recall work had been done. Just bought it in November and have only put 200 miles on. Checked every thing out before we had snow. It must loosen and come out fairly quick.

The left side seemed a little loose when I pulled the front off to get to everything. Applied loctite on that upper also.

Was there any loctite remaining on the bolt?
If not, then the recall was not likely performed.

No loctite....so probably did not get it.

Is it possible to go to your dealer and ask for a re-call list or similar? I bought my 09 xtx in the spring, and have checked everything over, but it would be nice to see what work as been performed and what hasn't?

I have called my dealer explaining the problem and he is calling Yamaha to see if they will fix...because mine is a 2010 doesnt mean they they didnt use left over 2009 spindles and bolts since there was no change in the spindles from 2009 on...I think Yamaha should man up to their problems before someone is seriously hurt or killed ...if I had been going at a good speed who knows what would have happened...for the rest of you ..I would check the bolts on your A Arms and apply the red locktite

All I got was a ballcap for a survey where I took the time to write a complete list of downfalls on the entire blank back page. I pretty handed there a$$e$ to them for all the stuff like heaters, sliders, ice build up, bushings, etc. I'm sure you get the picture. When I brought my sled in for the 1st check I was worried after they told me about that recall (they checked, but I knew about because of this site) if they put a torque wrench on and possibly broke the factory loctite, but all they said was it was good. I didn't believe they even looked at my sled because I flipped my hood fasteners over and that's the way it was $170.00 and a hour and half later. They tell me they checked the track tension/alignment also and I'm like "wow" how did they do that without running it. I heard my machine go in and out no run up in between. I'd know there's a MBRP can on it. I've never received anything directly from Yamaha Corp except a survey!

i was in maine last year when my steerin got real tight.pulled over and checked the the sled and noticed ice biuld up on the a-arms and steering rods, so kicked the ice off, grabbed the skis shook them back and forth and it steered easy again. took off fast to catch back up to the group and setting up for the next left corner my right ski folded under the sled and i went fliing! the sled rolled several times and i landed in around three feet of snow(good thing because i didnt get hurt). took the plastic nose cover off on the trail and noticed the bolt on the right hand side backed out and allowed the top a-arm to become free. the bolt ended up almost in a u-shape. everyone should check these bolts because i got away lucky with only sled damage and nothing wrong with me. by the way this happened on a 08 nytro so no matter what year your sled is check them out. be safe guys and have fun. oh yeah i was doing around 40 to 45 mph going into the corner.
