Got to put about 100 miles on...only part of my areas trail system is open (Tomahawk, Lincoln CO, Wisconsin)...Oneida County is open, but only the Hiawatha (railrode grade, from Sara Park North) is open in Tomahawk.

The Attak out in a field

Here is Lake Mohawksin..doesn't look safe to me..not going on it yet..you can't see, all the slush, and brown spots in the picture..trust me..scary

The Knight Owls, and Northwoods Passage has tracked or Panned most of the trails...the swamps are causing the most problems..lots of water in them this year..very wet.

I basically have to pound ditches, to get to the open trails which sux...but I don't want to piss anybody off, so I'm staying off the closed trails, and lakes for now...I don't trust ice fishermen...6 inches of ice usually means two...lol

My review of the attak so far... LOVE the Attak...awesome sled..still fiddling with the suspension, the mono is a bit softer than I am used to...but I like it, very cushy suspension with good weight transfer...I gotta stop reading these snomobile magazines that rip on yamahas..they are waaaayyy off on how this skid rides...yes it's soft..I wouldn't ditch bang with it, nor go jump driveways..but for trail cruising I think it's nice...very cushy.....sled handles decent too...everybody made a big deal out of the inside ski lift...I don't get it..it doesn't lift anymore than my cat or doo did...it's a non issue.
The motor....man..what a motor!!!...this thing rips!!!! It took me awhile to get used to the engine braking....but now I kinda like it...thing pulls like a freight train...LOVE it...sounds cool..uses waaayyyy less fuel than my cat...AWESOME.

I will say this to anybody thinking about switching to a yamaha four stroke..RIDE ONE..don't believe all the negative reviews..I kinda did,and all it did was keep me off a machine I really like for three riding seasons.
I listened to the "experts" crow about weight, handling, and ride...and IMO
they were wrong...I do need to maybe get the "fat boy" spring..because I feel the mono is a bit too soft for my style of riding....and this sled is definately not a powder sled..it is heavy, but it doesn't bother me all that much.
I wish I would have bought this sled 3 years ago. :o| [/img]

Great review! I also picked up an 06 Attak this year but we haven't had enough snow to take 'er out for a spin, even around the yard. I'm glad to hear you love the thing already.

Btw, how much do you weigh? You said the suspension was a bit soft and I was actually thinking about cranking my suspension down a little (I weight just under 140lbs). Maybe I'll just leave it at the stock setting and see how I like it.

Also, I've heard a lot about how the Attak does NOT like deep snow and your observations just reinforce the matter. If I were you I'd do what I'm doing this year: picking up a set of Yamaha Mountain skis. They are 7 inches wide (good flotation) and actually pretty cheap! I think YamahaSportsPlaza sells them for $72. Just make sure you get the mounting equipment too, if you DO intent to buy them. Otherwise, great review and glad to see other Attak riders out there enjoying the snow!

If you are 140 lbs..I wouldn't touch your suspension...I'm 220 plus with gear, and I think if I weighed under 200, this mono would be damn good.

It doesn't like deep snow..I took it through a ditchline with 10-16 inches of fresh powder last saturday...when you let off the throttle she likes to nose dive...you can feel the weight then..just stay on the gas and she powers right through it ...I had a blast..powder spray up over the nose into my face..lol If you bought it to blast powder, you are not gonna be happy though...on groomed trails, and forest service roads, ..the thing rocks!!!
I didn't buy the attak to powder ride...I'm not into that anymore..fun once in awhile, but too much work..I'm getting older and lazier...don't feel like digging sleds out anymore..lol I just want to ride. This sled suits my riding style and preference to a T. Again, I am very happy with it. After riding Cats and Doos the last 7 seasons...I am very glad to be back on a yamaha.

BTW I noticed in deep/deeper snow...putting the throttle to the bars I got around 12 mpg (never got better than 10 mpg with my crossfire in deep snow, usually 8 mpg)...on trail it's around 14 mpg..again never got better than 10-11 mpg with any of my doos, or the cat..so this sled is a pleasant surprise..alot more HP, and better fuel economy...ya gotta like that

HA! We have a family vacation home on Silver Lake!! Used to ride there all the time, but winters haven't been all that good the last few years. I LOVE that area. We usually head Nwest to Price Cty. for a day or two, and then East towards Summit Lake through Harrison Hills. LOVE seeing that Bombi groomer going across our lake!!
