Here is my creation of a fix for the icing problem in the tunnel. I tried to achieve keeping the snow from the muffler, but yet keeping some cooling for the muffler at the same time. Whats you thoughts?

looks like it will rattle
It won't rattle at all. I have it attached in (6) places. 1- sandwiched between the muffler mounting brackets in the back. 2- I added a small nut and bolt to the two wings and affixed them to the exisitng muffler shroud. ( did not have that done yet in pic). 3- there a (2) rivets in the either side of the tunnel protecters. Should not move one bit!sgilbert said:looks like it will rattle
Great idea (I had the same one) Too bad it doesn't help completly, remove the tunnel protectors now and you will be all set. Believe me I did exactly what you did but it only helped a little. Remove the tunnel protectors and you will be good to go! Do it now before the snow flies. Just my suggestion, I have 6000 miles on my XTX and removing the protectors was my best mod.

Looking good.
Id say remove the protectors, and install a block off plate.
Doing just one of the mods wont stop the icing completely.

Good to hear, I'm ripping mine out.
. After you took the protectors out, did the track ever slap the exhaust at all? I thought about doing that same thing but was worried about the exhaust.kkraus said:Great idea (I had the same one) Too bad it doesn't help completly, remove the tunnel protectors now and you will be all set. There out!!
Super simple. Drill out six rivets per side. Put a box wrench on them, twist left then right and the rivets way up under the tunnel just pop right out. Truly a 5 minute job.
Props to the guys from Muffin Works for the box wrench tip. I would of been under there trying to figure out how to cut them out.

Eagle1 did you drop the suspension or can you get to the rivets right under the seat?
