I needed to take my track off to fix a leaking cooler and when I opened the chain case up I found that the bolt holding all the bottom gears on was snap off in the drive shaft. Nothing was broken luckily. I have no idea how long it has been like that. So just a reminder to open that sucker up once an awhile and look over everything.

It's common, there is an upgraded bolt for bottom gear.

I have 6000 mi on without my bolt. because i was not able to tap out the broken piece .

Ya its a common thing, I had my bolt back out and put a hole in the chaincase cover. Fun Stuff!

If I remember correctly doesn't the bolt just hold gears in place for install, otherwise it kept together by the cover?

You might be right because there is the bearing in the cover.

So you put the case back together without that bolt in there? I'm hoping that I can get the broken part out smoothly.

Yes you can, but if you are able to remove the piece , i would put a bolt back in.

O yeah I'm going to try and get that out. I had this same thing happen on an older Polaris I had awhile back and it came out fairly easy so hopefully it goes just as smoothly with my nytro.

Yamaha updated the bolt for this reason. Took mine to a local machine shop to get it out.

The bolt has loctite on it so it will need heat to get out, at least mine did.
