If you are traveling this area, Make sure that you stop at all stop signs even if it is just at a foot trail. Police are setting down these trails wanting for you. Even if you slow down and just roll through you will get stop. I have a freind that lives in Newberry and he called me last night and said that it was posted in there local paper that they wrote 31 tickets over the past weekend on snowmobilers. Issues ranged from using the wrong access streets in town to DUI.

Not gonna shed one tear for the DUI's.
You should also be aware that if you are riding in a ditch or un-plowed portion of the right-of-way, you must come to a complete stop before entering the road's plowed shoulder.

Bust the DUI's that's fine, but most of the other stuff is just a revenue generator
Why is it the locals bitch when the sledders are there and then they bitch if there isn't any snow for the sledders to come up and spend money

Good one Mighty!
But the DUI thing needs to be addressed, and this is how they are getting them.

Just a little backgruond on Newberry. A few years ago Newberry was the best town for snowmobling in the UP. Then some Jack A@@ snowmobiler ran over and killed some ladies cat. In a town like that(small) it does not take much to change the rules and make people mad. There is also a 10 pm curfew in town.

It only takes one dumbass to screw it up for all the others. That's why we need to police ourselves so someone else doesn't do it for us. If you're riding with a jackass doing stupid $hit make him/her knock it off for all of our sakes :ORC
Yup,I got a warning for a slow-n-go in newberry 3 weeks ago! Jay

And that's why I've never ridden into Newberry.
Excellent point Mighty. But one thing EVERYONE needs to be aware of:
Please DO NOT Trespass off-trail, on private land areas. Here are 2 Prime examples that contribute to our losses:
In the Sault, there is a residence who owns about a 5 acre corner lot. They have it roped off, and posted and there are still snowmobile tracks going thru it. There is also a posted, by city ordinance, NO SNOWMOBILES sign at both ends of the road that is adjacent to the property on the North side. It just so happens that this is a popular bi-pass to the Kewadin casino route, and it was tolerated for several years, but not this year. I don't believe the owner has a sled either because none of the tracks go into the yard, by the house. You can clearly see where they cut the corner to avoid the intersection.
Also, some of you may know this but Paradise is also getting fed-up with snowmobilers who come off the bay, thru peoples backyards. I watched a guy get chewed out last year for driving down a driveway to get on the bay. It so happened that the owner of the property had a bad heart condition, and the noise, smell, and constant barrage of trespassers added to their stress. Although the County has opened the road commission facility for access to/from the bay, you can still sense an un-easy feeling when you're riding along M-123 in front of all the houses.
One more thing: When you cross driveways, don't spin the tracks un necessarily, shooting snow into them as you cross. We all know how much we hate to clean out our driveways after the plows go thru, so have some consideration.
You have to realize that areas like the UP are getting more populated, in rural areas. People are buying up land like no tomorrow, and we are losing ground on our trails. The people who do open up their land for use, deserve the utmost consideration while operating on their property.
On that note, I ask that EVERYONE please respect the wishes of land owners, and not trespass on their property. It's no wonder we're losing trails and they are getting more policed.

Its just as easy to come to a complete stop as it is to decide not to drink and ride.
Every little bit helps. Today I was riding in a state park, on a trail that is shared by snowmobiles and cross country skiers. I passed them at about 2 mph and at a steady speed instead of blasting past them or burping the throttle with my really cool exhaust.
Later on the same trail I came to a 4 way intersection that I could see all directions well before getting to the stop sign. I came to a complete stop though, because there were some non-snowmobiliers using a nearby warming house.
The point is, following all of the rules all of the time helps our sport. We only hurt ourselves by taking shortcuts. Just when we think nobody is watching, somebody usually is.
