I have a 05 Grizzly, when I am in full throttle it will suddenly bog for a second then keep right on going, bog for a second then keep going etc… There is no specific rpm or speed, just under full throttle. I just noticed that when it bogs the reverse light goes on. I searched the forum but nothing pops up. Please help.

Hmm, is there a rev limiter on the grizz? I'm not sure but it sure sounds like you're bumping the rev limiter.

My new 700 did the same thing. It was like it was sensing reverse going forward and the reverse limiter was making it cut out. I shortened the gearshift linkage one half turn and it has not happened again.

Thanks for the info.

It’s not the rev limiter as I am not near the limit. It might be the rev limiter kicking in… but not from high rpm’s.

The rev limiter is kicking on and that is why you are also seeing the reverse light coming on which is a indication of this to let you know. Your dealer should have gone over this with you on purchase and then again maybe not.
Anyways from a Yamaha dealer standpoint we cannot put a bypass on the machine for sfety reasons as this is why it is built in but I can tell you there are bypasses out there for sale on which you would have to install as this would be a safety issue for a yamaha dealer to install.

did any of you guys ever figure out what caused the problem? my grizz does it also, and i bypassed the rev limiter. but sometimes it still does it. maybe the bypass losses ground or something but i would rather fix it for good. ive replaced the reverse sensor with no luck. my local dealer says it could be a bent arm inside the motor telling the system its in reverse. but other than it bogging it seems to be running fine. i just dont want to tear anything up by letting it go for now.
i already made that mistake happen once ya know the old saying "if it isnt broke dont fix it" thats crap if it isnt broke you better make sure its not going to lol.
oh and as for my mistake two batteries, two stators and a new cdi rotor or "flywheel" and about $800 later its all good.

i think i figured out my problem the reverse switch was not making contact with the roller inside the motor. i checked it by gageing the depth of the hole and the depth of the switch. i pulled the copper washer off to set the switch lower. the main cause was the roller has a grove warn in it so the switch will not contact. you can do what i did but make sure you seal the threads with high temp thread sealent.or replace the roller which can be pulled from behind the gear sensor just to the right of the reverse switch. hope this helps

I would just bypass the reverse rev limiter. It's very easy to do. Go to grizzhopper.com for instructions.

Never mind I see you already did that.

It is probably the rev limiter. The quad may temporarily think it is in reverse and will then cut out. I have a friend with a 700 griz that sometimes does that. His will do it for several seconds and he hits the override button. With his it comes and goes.
