After changing gear and chain, it was time to add gear oil. I found a long funnel and started to go at it. First thing I know the oil is burping out the hole because air can't get out. Since the brake rotor was still off, I loosened up the set screw on the "collar" and worked it out of the seal, now the crank case can breathe as the oil is going in. Not sure what I would have done if the rotor was on first. Any thoughts?

I'm sure its in the owner's manual, but how many ounces to fill the case?

(Re-gearing mine this weekend)

Normal. You have to fill it slowly.

Yep, and and you almost have to hover the funnel over the hole too. A long piece of PVC tubing works great for that.

How long would it take someone to change the gear oil the 1st time on an 05 Vector? On a scale of 1-5 (5 being hard) how difficult is it? I'd like to change mine and it doesn't look overly difficult.

There's a plug to unscrew and drain????

I have a funnel with a clear hose on it.I just put the hos throught the chaincase hole so it still can get air in and put it in only takes a couple mins.

Inside the tunnel there is a plug in the back side of the chain case to drain the oil. So your wrench will be between the track and the tunnel.

As I look down into the dipstick hole, it is of course a larger hole, but down below where the rubber stoppers is, the hole narrows down to about 5/16 in. Next time the cover is off I may drill a very small vent hole in the top and plug it with a rubber washered screw or bolt.

just put a a little at a time and then pull the funnel out and let air in and repeat a few times and your done.

A long neck funnel and fill it slowly. It should not take more than a min. to add 7 /12 oz. to fill it up to the bottom of the std. mark. Mine took 7 1/2 oz.

Gosh dang, Pistons, you should have called me over to hold that funnel!! Or to help wipe up all that oil!! Lol RR

Ya just sit there and offer all that help after the damage is done. At least now I know how to rip apart a chain case. We can start on your track swap next week!!
