Was thinking of adding some wheels to the skid frame in front of the forward most wheels as I have seen quite a bit of hy-fax wear there. This is before the bend of the rails and the current forward position of boogie wheels. Was thinking of added the marginal wheel kit plus possible another set between the marginal wheels and the current front wheels. Any feedback on this modification? Have to replace the skid frame rails as the inner front wheels mount broke the rails so I will have the option to added more wheels to the new rails during the replacement process.

I added those wheels to mine and it helped a lot.

I also changed my stock wheels to the Excell wheels, the change was drastic. I still have Hyfax for next season!

^^^I agree^^^

Did the same to both of my sleds. While everybody was smoking their slides in the low snow conditions we had this season, I had hardly any wear. Definitely worth it!

wheel size

I swaped out the wheels on my Apex from 5.25" to 5.35" can I do the same on the Phazer? What size are the Excell wheels?

They're 135mm, which is about 5.32". The inside wheels you can't use just anything like Doo or Polaris wheels as the bearing size is wrong. That's where the Excell wheels can be used. Although I used Doo wheels on my VMP on the outside, I used Excells on the Phazer inside and out as it is less of a hassle and comes out to about the same cost as using Doo wheels and mounts. It's just a straight swap with the Excells.

I put four excells on but never got to ride with them do u think u need the marginal snow wheels with the excells? It looks like there is a lot less pressure on the bend of the rails with the excells.

Yes. On my VMP, I put two sets of low snow wheels because my hyfax wore down so bad there. Also heard that pulling the strap up a hole or two helps too.

Mine is the base model 07 phazer and I have the strap 2nd hole from top. If I just sit on the sled and get back off the suspension don't even tighten the strap back up. Maybe not enough spring tension, I guess I'll see next year!!

Aaron (owner of Excell) told me no other wheels are needed as they are big enough to hold the track just off the slider enough by like an 1/8" more, mine has 4 across the front, wear on the 2nd set of sliders seems to be better.
I left the low snow wheel kit on as well, probally don't need 'em but not hurting anything~ wear is improving regardless.

Interesting. I am waiting for my 4 Excell wheels to show up that I ordered and have a new low snow wheel kit that I was going to install. I will have to see if I want to install the low wheel kit after all. G.B.

Quick peek at the Excell's & low snow kit (guess you can't really see the space but it's there).
First had them mounted farther up towards the bend (hole just in front of wheel) but it didn't help. In 600 miles sliders were toasted~ mostly very low snowfall but had to ride). 2nd set hasn't worn 1/2 as bad so I think it did something.

Also added some to the rear as well.

For those that have added the low snow wheels, did you mount them inside or outside on the rails?

G.B.

I put mine outside but they can be mounted either way.

Yamaha Low Snow Wheel kit installed on the outside of the rails.

Be sure to use Thread Lock. One side will like to spin off if you don't. Expensive mistake.

Good luck!
