Does anybody run an after market ignition on there grizzly and what kind.MY buddy put a dyna ignition on his brute force 750 and it made abig difference and he picked up 13 mph and runs 75 mph full throttle now.The only one I see that makes one for the grizzly is big gun.

We are in the process of doing some testing with an aftermarket CDI called the "Juice Box". I hope to have a couple members on this forum give it a try and report back. Stay tuned.

What exactly is "The Juice Box" supposed to do?

The electronics on the BF actually contols the CVT in that it detects the ATV’s speed, direction, and deceleration electrically. When the conditions are satisfied, the electric servo moves out to hold the CVT drive pulley closed thereby connecting the driving pulley with the driven pulley through the belt and then generating braking force to the engine. It also does other "weird thinking" for you like having a "limp home" mode if it's not happy with the way you've been treating it or some such nonsense.

In the case of the BF, I can see where the factory engineers are protecting us from ourselves so an aftermarket box could show immediate "bolt-on" benefit.

In the case of the Grizzly , I would think that an "improved" CDI box is only going to be effective when you change other componets on the machine, primarlily clutching.

Of course, i could be dead wrong in which case I'll take a Cranberry flavor juice box, it goes good with vodka. :drink:

I'll test one out for you Port Parts :-o .I've been wondering if I should go get a new cdi or not

What kind of cdi unit where you looking at Grizz 5. I found another company that makes them it is PROCOM ENGINEERING and they run $139.00,the BIG GUN unit is $179.00

I heard that the big gun was alittle bit better ,but I think grizzhopper has better details on them both :D

THE BIG GUN has a 1 year warranty on it, which I'm thinking of getting, and the PROCOM only has a 90 day warranty unless GRIZZHOPPER posts a better one that he uses that I can look into. I know the DYNA that my buddy put on his 750 brute force made a big difference. When we would race each other we would be dead even, now he goes bye me like I'm standing still.

This may be a dumb question but wouldn't a raptor ignition work. The raptor revs a lot higher than the griz.

Probably cost a fortune cause it would come in a Yamaha package.

No clutch, mine is the dumb question, what exactly does the aftermarket CDI do for the Grizzly?

"Makes it go faster" is not really the answer I'm looking for here.

I can bump the rev limiter on my Rappy in anything but top gear. My Grizzly's only do it when the clutches are gunked up and I'm really quite happy that my wife says it goes "Bwop-Bwop-Bwop" and not just "BANG-how come there's oil coming out of the bottom?"

Reminds me of when she blew up my roto-tiller. "Honey, it just went bang and stopped, pulls over real easy though." Uh, I hate to tell you this but you ran it out of oil. "No way, you're not getting me on that one, there's oil coming out of the side."

Uh, OK honey.... :o|

The after market CDI unit will give you 1200 rpm on top end,and advances the timing to give you more bottom end power.

Thanks smooth, makes sense.

The advanced timing on the bottom end should then raise the octane requirement to prevent pre-ignition and subsequently provide more HP.

Won't you still need clutch work to take advantage of the extra 1,200 rpm?

NO, my buddy just put it in his stock 750 brute force with no other ajustments and went from 62 MPH,to 75 MPH, and alot better throttle response. As far as octane rating, yamaha calls for minimum of 91 octane as it says on mine on the sticker under the seat.

I'll take your word for it on the BF as I've heard pretty much the same from other BF riders.

As for required octane, the 91 is the "research octane" requirement. The pump octane ([R+M]/2) requirement is 86. The octane rating you see on most if not all fuel pumps in North America is pump octane.

Here's a link to more information than most people care to know about octane ratings: http://www.refiningonline.com/EngelhardKB/crep/TCR4_29.htm

I run the Pro-Com revision"C". It does well but more can be expected with more mods. Like pipe, airbox/filter, etc...

I have not tried the Big-Gun or Hauck unit as "yet", but will soon. Have heard only good things about the Big-Gun, & very little about the Hauck part.

:D
