Here in Canada, there are strict rules against aftermarket exhausts mainly due to noise pollution after recent lawsuits in Montreal a year or two ago.

My question to those of you with aftermarket exhausts, FMF, SuperTrapp, Excell, is there a noticeable increase in noise levels? Which of the aftermarket exhausts are the quietest?

On your list of manufactures Excell is the only aftermarket exhaust, the other two you see are bike exhausts modded to the sled, are you looking for a bolt on type or do want to get the grinder and the mig out to install??

Supertrapp superlight stainless is nice and quiet with 4 disks. Saves alot of weight, and it you get one for a FZR600, it bolts right on with a nice stainless mid-pipe and T-bolt clamps.

I am suprised the aftermarket companies aren't building Supertrapp systems, best of both worlds cause you can tune for sound / performance.

They need re-packed every year though, at least.

A cop would have no way of telling it's louder than stock at all. I was stopped once with 4 disks in, and the cop asked it that was stock, I lied and said yes, and he believed me. It's very quiet. Idle is louder than factory, but once you are moving it's the same.

So are any of those exhaust Excell, hartman or hauck significantly louder than stock? Are they within the legal noise limits of 72 dB?

My mistake. Max noise levels produced by a snowmobile must not exceed 82 dB. So with the Phazer sitting at 80 dB stock, will the aftermarket exhausts exceed the 82 dB limit? Are there specs out there on each aftermarket exhaust produced for the Phazer?

The ones with discs are tunable so just find someone with a db meter and keep taking them off till your under.2db less is ALOT quieter so would be very safe.
