air box mod with aftermarket pipe safe?

I'm off work this week and will finally be able to get back to working on my viper!!! I have to hood off and will be pulling the air box tomorrow to do the mod. I'm told to check the plugs with the mod and pipe so to do this do I just start the sled on the stand, rev it up, shut it down and pull the plugs or do I need to run it for a while?
My plugs should be a tan color correct?

If new And you did one run on them yes tan colored on the porcelain surrounding the center electrode. Down in there. 4 st sucks for reading plugs unless a 1 cyl with easy access otherwise it is impossible to tune using them correctly.

I have the original plugs in it should I swap them out for new ones?(1600km)
sorry I don't understand your last sentence!!!:dunno:

Checking plugs on a 4st sled is not feasible. A true plug check requires a brand new set of plugs. Maybe more than one set. Installed in a warm sled with run made immediately after install. If not you will contaminate your reading. If really concerned a AFR guage is the only way to do it within reason. Short of that listen to your motor hesitations usually mean a rich condition. Poor idle or missing anywhere in range usually means a lean condition. If concerned though AFR is way to go.
