This race always intriques me. Probably because Yamaha tends to dominate it. It's all about white knuckle speed in brutal conditions. It was held this past weekend of January 14-15th. I scoured all the Alaska news sites, the Alcan 200 website etc. and I finally found the results of the open class on facebook. Here are this years winners in the open class:
651-Open Liquid Jarrid Davy, Whitehorse 1:33:28 riding 2008 Yamaha APEx
2nd Place Chris Brooks, Haines 1:42:16 riding 1997 Yamaha SX
3rd Place Danny Stenvik, Fairbanks 1:46:48 riding 1999 Skidoo Mach Z
OVERALL WINNERS:
1st Jarrid Davy, Whitehorse average speed 99.5 mph
...2nd Chris Brooks, Haines average speed 90.9
3rd Greg Peede, Fairbanks average speed 89.4
CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL WHO FINISHED THE RACE AND ESPECIALLY TO THOSE WHO FINISHED IN THE MONEY....

This years speed was down about 10+ mph due to low snow. The winner averaged around 99 mph. I have seen it close to 120 mph in the past.
