Ok. I had my 07 base model out on 3 separate occasions since the beginning of the season. It fired up and ran just fine all 3 times. Actually, I've never had a problem starting her up.

Anyway, we get to the cabin and I goto fire my sled up and it would not start. I ended up killing the battery trying. So I got the battery on charge and got some starting fluid, figuring that would do the trick. Well, it still would not start. It fired for a split second a few time, but thats it. It wasn't that cold outside (about 30ºf), but we put a reddy heater on it to warm it up. That didnt work either. So, I starting stripping it down to check the plugs. I took off the gas tank, got the plugs out and made sure they were sparking, and they were. I cleaned them up a little bit (barely at all really as I didnt have fine sand paper or a wire brush), put everything back together, and she fired right up. It really doesnt make any sense since I didnt change anything. I just took it apart and put it back together.

I have NOT had the cold start update, but I don't think that was the issue since were put a heater on the sled for a little while and it still wouldnt fire.

After I got it fired up, I had NO issues starting it the rest of the weekend, even in the morning when it was 0ºf.

Any Ideas?

its sounds like youre fuel pump relay is sticking, mine did the same over the weekend,we rode on friday and the sleds spent the night outside in -35 weather,in the morning,i turned the key,no fuel pump sound, hairdryer fixed it,this morning, same scenario, relay was ok,its weird but sometimes they freeze and sometimes they dont,i will replace mine this week, when you dont hear the pump cycling, its the relay, this is what i hate about efi

Well, my fuel pump WAS definitely priming, I heard it every time. So I don't think that was the issue. But for future reference, where is the fuel pump relay located?

This happened to me as well. The first several times I turned the key....nothing. Then I would keep turning key back and forth then would click several times, then out of the blue would turn over then start. This happened many times then worked just fine many times. Home today and same thing. Nothing, then clicks (a single click everytime key turned), then would finally turn over.
BTW my fuel pump primes EVERY time. Hard for me to brag Yamaha's to my Polaris buddies when this occurs :o| :o|

Never had the issue, but slower turning over this year? I think i know the problem and i'm disapointed to know it. Used a car battery charger on trickle to charge it before the season, should of bought a battery tender. :o| Damaged it somehow. It turns over just a little slower.

under the battery there are 3 of them,i just point a heat source towards all 3 and 1 minute later its fine

Glad I read this....Ive had the F-ing thing apart so many times but couldnt remember where they were. It did start turning over right after I kicked it once though...right at that spot (where battery is) lol.

Some guys also had issues with the starter solenoid. Its attached to right side of batt.

I had a large list of ptoblems for the race this weekned and one of them was this. I was getting ready to head to staging my sled would not start. It just keeped cranking and cranking. Took me an hour, bosster pack fo bit, then a jump start. I got hlod of seth thorson on the phone and he told me it was flooded. I pulled the fuelk line after the jusmp and it started. Needless to say I got a DNS.
Results-closest yamaha
Arctic Cat Expert 85 Improved-no yamaha to be seen becaues seth thorson could not make the race,
Brothers Motorsports Expert 85-12th
Sport 85-28th
I am going to write up an AAR tommarow on weekend!

I just went through the exact same thing on my 07. The starter was killing the batteries, ( had to jump it twice with a booster pack we had handy) after Replacing the battery with a new one it still would drain it dead trying to start. Was diagnosed as a defective starter.
But my dealer and Yamaha came through and replaced it under a goodwill warranty. (i'll pay 1/2 the labour)

Same happened to mine the last two weekends. Turn key ... fuel pump would do it's thing and dash would light up. Wait for the fuel pump to stop and turn key and just a click.
I removed the starter relay (some call it solenoid) which is located in front of the battery (red battery cable is connected to it and two 10 amp fuses on top). Just pull the relay forward away from its mount. Two 8mm bolts to remove and unclip the 4 post terminal plugged into the top.
When I looked, the 4 posts on the relay had a fair amount of corrosion. Just scrape or use sandpaper to clean the terminals, apply dielectric grease or petrolem jelly to the terminals and reinstall.

;)!

Remember your never to touch the throttle while trying to start or it will flood. Once flooded just taking plugs out can 1) release fuel vapors out of cylinders without putting more in. (ie:holding throttle wide open to clear out a carberated engine) 2) just wipeing the plugs off or drying them off is enough to alow it to start once reinserted. A quick way to get at plugs is remove seat, side and top pannels, fuel tank bolts and slide tank back a few inches without having to unhook anything and you can access plugs from above striaght down in front of gas tank. 15 min job with rite tools.

The same thing happened to me with a few exceptions. Turn the key, power to the dash but no fuel pump sound..... Cranks over till the fat lady can sing but just hear a click like everyone else can hear coming from the general area of the relays. I did not have a hair dryer but I did have the torch so very carfully may I say, did I send a warm stream of air in that genral region of the relays for about a good 10 mins. Nothing, still just a click instead of a fuel pump cycle. By this time i'm pisssed off now. Pull my skidoo into the shop backwards because the wood stove is on the left and I want the relay side of my sled to be in a direct path of the heat. Fire up the wood stove, get her going nice and hot. probably 1/2 hour or so, fired up some electric lettuce......... Turn the key and bam !!!!! fuel pump cycles and she fires right up. warmed up the machine for a good 15-20 mins. shut her off. I kept the wood stove going for a good couple of hours afterwards to thaw her right out and until there is no more water dripping from her. That was last night. If it fires up tonight and tomorrow I will be going out on the land for a night so I'll inform of any mishaps. In the mean time I have a couple of spare relays coming.

 at the same time :o|
