Just recieved my new American Snowmobiler Nov. issue. They give a dyno report on the Apex 150 engine. 149.8 h.p. @10100 r.p.m.. Sounds like they met their h.p. target. After break-in they will really impress a lot of sledders. Yamaha did a good job on this one.

BLACK REV 800 X
Newbie
Not that it was unexpected, but for those that haven't had the chance to ride the "new" 4 stroke, linear torque has quite a kick in whole range, compared to the 2 stroke, which when on the "Pipe" feels great at a certain rpm, typically short in range.... The new 4 stroke motor is always strong...
This is tough language for anyone that doesn't consider 4 stroke viable:
I'm open minded regarding future sleds.. Especially tough for REV guys - But then again I have a new REV and a new GT coming so can't complain too much....
I never thought I'd post that I'd crossed over... I was on my way to snow check a 1000 X Ren, then hit a 4 stroke challenge... It change my mind on the spot.. I think Yami needs to get more of those rides out there.. I would certainly be willing to help out if required...
Consider me a new convert.... And I've got 39 years experience riding..
You guys have a great site here..
PS - Clarky -- What a great thing your Dad did for our country... Thanks.. I would hope to meet you on the trail.. Maybe in N. Minn.. someday.. I'll look for for the tricked F-7 with the kills on the side..
I'm only a retired Navy Chief, wish I could have been in the air but eye sight hampered.... Not that it didn't keep me out thought... Good friends are worth a million.....
Have a good one....

Iv'e seen 120hp sled beat 160hp sleds it's all in the set up and condition's.I bet the track hp will be very close between the apex and the mach. Not a bash I like the mach's too just stating my opinion.

Not bashing i owned an 03 RX 1 and it was a great sled. Just read how a forum member read that even the confusion could pose a threat to the APEX it should run better than them, but my buddy was at a yammy dealer and he was saying their gonna beat the Z's when the snow flies we'll find out.Let the NET RACING begin.

149.8 hp @ 10100 rpm
I thought "rumor control" had the peak rpm at 10,500rpm......:?......Guess not.
based on gearing and rpm shouldnt the high revs of the apex put top mph somehwere close to the mach. I know the mach has more hp but since the apex revs over 2 grand more than the mach doesnt that close the gap a little

RPM has NOTHING to do with speed.
POWER dictates speed.
However, by spinning the engine at the wrong speed, you don't make the right power and that can cost speed.

Your Wrong. If you can get your Clutches to a 1 to 1 Ratio you will continue to pull more MPH if your RPMS increase. That's why Mike Knapp Ran his Races sleds in the 12000 RPM range. He could run lower gears and Pull MPH out of the RPM.

The RPMs won't increase unless the power is there. And you'd be better off gearing up to keep it from the 1:1 because once you spin it beyond its peak power, you are loosing speed from what you COULD achieve.
In order to achieve best top speed, peak rpm will be obtained at 1:1 and it won't have any power to go any higher. Those are three conditions that have to be met simultaneously.
When its set to get best top end by spinning faster than its best speed, it is because top end is being sacrificed for hole shot. It may be better to win a particular race, but it will be worse for chasing someone down.
