Another slide thread, should I replace?

So are the Dupont slides the same material as the cheaper slides (like OEM) except for the inserts?

actually i think the host material is softer than regular slide material.

Biff- I have changed 2 sets with the skid in on my sled and both times it was the biggest PITA ever. I dont know if it's due to the tipped rails or skid length but it was a major fight both times. If anyone has any tricks I am all ears....but hopefully it will be a long time before I have to do them again.

Tell me about it. I have a 2012 XTX and i never had such a hassle changing like I did with this sled. I asked those same questions. I'm guessing tipped rails which jams the slide against the window. The one I had to pound out the whole way. The second I used the reverse method and it came out like peeling a banana....

One trick I use when changing sliders is to spray a corrosion lube or WD40 down both sides of each slider let it sit for a 1 or 2 hr then tape the front far enough to get a hand grab on the back and they pull off. Just changed to my second set of dupont and I had 12,000 miles on the last pair. Most of my riding is in good snow conditions, but they sure do last.

What length track? I did the same procedure and I couldnt pull them out like I could with my 121s. Puting them on I had to tap them pretty good.... I could see why the were difficult to get off. I used wd40 putting them on too... Like a friend told me, with tipped rails it's like putting a square peg in a round hole.

Amen, I knew my XTX needed new slides, and I ended up pulling my skid. As I could not get them started while the skid was mounted. If I could have gotten it started, I would have used the reverse method. NO GO! I just pulled the skid and did other maintenance at that time as well. I use WD40 too.

i did mine in place on the 2011 this season but i had the track loose from doing idler wheels and bearings.

at 7600mi i would put the graphite ones back into it. i got around 11000 miles on the cheap kimex plastic on the 2011 skid once i put on the real cool oversize idler wheels before it was time to replace them. the 2012 skid i have for the 11 has about 1800 miles with the kimpex 5.32 wheels for apex on it and they will be good for quite awhile yet when i put it back in again.
