I've been reading Totallyamaha for a long time, but have never posted before and have one more turbo question that I don't think has been answered.
I currently ride a 02 SRX7 and my fiancee rides a 99SX5. I have a 05 RX1-ER on order and realize its getting down to rug cuting time to order a turbo for Oct-Nov delivery.
I ride with F7 Sno Pro's, ZR9's and 8's, one T-Cat, assorted Polcats and Doo's, including one new Mach Z on order for 05.
These guys know the RX-1 has been ordered and the chirping has already begun. They will not know about the turbo until the sled hits the snow. My 2 Yamahas are the only Yamahas in the group.
My riding is all groomed trails. Southwestern Pa 1800-2900 feet elevation. Lots of turns and you are lucky if you get a 1000 ft straight every now and then. Western New York and UP of Michigan. We stay in Newberry and ride as far west as Munising and as far east as Paradise and Sault Ste. Marie.
My Question: Is there a big difference in handling between the front and rear mount turbo, because of weight distribution? I have never ridden an RX-1. Thanks.

I can't really answer your question without guessing, but I would think that there shouldn't be too much difference. I really just wanted to wish you luck with your new sled, and that turbo is going to put you into a new zip code. Nothing is sweeter than stomping the competion, Have fun and let us know how it turns out next season

The Difference is Not the Handling it is Lifting when Stuck
watching Lots of rear & Front mount Turbos out Here I would Sway towards a rear mount as the sled is fairly front heavy already
I dont think it affects Handling While Riding as much as it effects you when lifting your sled when your Stuck.
But ANY turbo will be nicer than No turbo in my view
I have seen some amazing riders both front & Rear mount Turbo RX1
The Front mount typicaly loses some fuel capasity needing a modified fuel tank so if you do big miles think about that as well

Hey Bigdog, let me know when you go to Munising, I'll race ya. I'd like to see how much a turbo would kick a stock sled. Not saying I enjoy getting beat, just would like to see how fast you pull away.

Bigdog, I ride the same places except Pen. Give me a pm if you ever need a ride partner.
turbo
If you ride tight trails i would get a front mount turbo it has no lag and more throttle response.I would get a front mount no matter what what happens when you line up on a lake and the other turbo has turbo lag he's going to get left at the line. That's just my 2cent's.I know ther's going to be some resr turbo mount owners bashing me for saying that but that's my opinion.

I don't think the turbo has much effect on handling as far as wieght distribution goes. The front mount will be better for any drag race app. due to little or no lag.
As far as racing a stock sled goes

Impala; One of the young puppies who rides with us has a well set up MC Express turbo that I have raced many times both on grass and snow on my sled and Dukesters.
On grass it takes 6 lbs on an MC Express turbo to stay with Dukesters warrior. With 8 lbs to pull his warrior by 6 lengths. They are then very close on top end with Dukesters sled 1 to 2 MPH faster.
On snow with eight pounds of boost they run very close. Both have 3 studs per bar.
In summary if you aren't studded very heavy the turbo isn't all it is cracked up to be due to traction.

at 6 pounds he should be driving away from you and at it should get worse. His setup must be off.
i don't think the handling will be a big factor for you, but the response will be, the front mount design turbos are alot more fun to drive because of their instant response, and hard accelleration right from the start. jeff
SIMONS CPR: Jeff What's you take on a turbo with 6 or 8 pounds of boost verse a stocker?

jtssrx the sled isn't stock. It is supurbley clutched, geared, venturi evac, modified exhaust, air box and jetting.

That must be 1 sweet runner to hang with a turbo, Sounds like Dukester needs to go into the aftermarket business. He would be swamped
