a couple of questions.
I have an antifreeze leak. it looks like it is comming out of the back of the valve cover where the black rubber gasket seal is
I know it is common for the tubes/orings that connect the cooling system to the valve cover/head to leak. mine appear dry but i am going to change them anyway
is it possible for antifreeze to leak out of that black rubber valve cover gasket??
Also, what is the easiest way to drain the antifreeze without making a total mess.
Thanks

ok so i drained the antifreezeand replaced the 2 2 orings on the top tubes into the motor. both orings looked ok. no signs of antifreeze in the pocket they fit into. restarted the motor and warmed it up. still getting smoke and the smell of burning antifreeze but it does not seem as bad. not really sure though.
I decided to try to degrease the area where the leak showed up. Sprayed it down with a half can of spraycleaner. im thinking i might be smelling residual antifreeze burning off the motor and exhaust.
going to try it again later when the spray cleaner dries and see what i get.
can antifreeze leak out of that pocket on the tube fit in on the top of the motor and through the valve cover gasket and out the back of the motor? would i see antifreeze in my oil??

If anti-freeze was in your motor you would get a lot of white smoke out of your exhaust.
I'd say it is residual you are probably smelling but be sure to keep an eye on things just in case.

problem resolved by changing the 2 orings on the top of the motor. started it a 2nd time and no more smoke or smell.
whats confusing to me is that everytime i have read about this issue, people state that they can see antifreeze pooled up in the holes where the orings go.
I didnt have any antifreeze in these holes.
It appeared to be weeping through the valve cover seal. soaking wet all along the black rubber gasket with antifreeze drips comming off of it, on the side closest to the chain case.
I dont understand it but its fixed so time to stop worrying about it

Can someone tell me exactly were these orings are? I lost coolant some where and I am not sure that it all leaked out the running board heat exchanger. I know thats leaking but looks like I lost a good deal. I never smell burning antifreeze thou.
