Changed my oil and filter last night on ATTAK. Dealer gave me filter #5GH-13440-00. Sled had #5GH-13440-20 in it. I replaced it with the -00 thinking it was a substitute. Does anyone know if there is really any functional differece in the oil filters with suffix -00, -10, or -20? I know the length is different, but does it truly matter? Dealer admitted mistake, gave me another filter and recommended I install the correct one. I don't feel like doing it again. Any one know the real story?

Oil Filter
I just bought one today for my attak.
Dealer gave me part # 5GH-13440-00-00. He said it is same filter for 03-05 RX-1 and the new EFI engine. I have not changed the oil yet so unable to tell filter # installed at factory. Maybe its a new part design superceding old filter. If the diameter of the rubber seal matches up, you should be OK.
Update Edit: I just checked Yamaha Parts on line. The 03 and 04 RX1 calls out part # -00-00. The 05 RX1 calls out part # -10-00. The 05 Attak calls out part # -20-00. That is interesting. Dealer said same filter for all. Hmmm. Anybody got the straight scoop?

Picked up one for my Apex. Dealer looked it up and ghave me a -20. He told me it was slighter shorter to fit the EFI motor placement better. Haven't changed it yet.

I have the 2006 Yammy Tech handbook..shhh..secret...
So anyways, it tells the story of the differences of the APEX vs. the RX1's.
One of the differences is the oil filter..the EFI uses a smaller filer...TO SAVE WEIGHT.

The only difference is the length. I'm currently running the longer one.

I use a Napa gold filter. Not cheap, but far superior filter than the OEM. Napa part #1358

Do you know which Yamaha filter matches the 1358? I would think that Yamaha went ot the shorter filter for a reason. But maybe not.

I did not put the original filter and NAPA side by side, but there was no obvious difference in length. Yamaha filter was the original filter out of a Attak.

Thanks, sounds like a good approach. I have heard elsewhere that NAPA filters are well made. And cheaper than Yamaha.

Superior, why? The Yamaha filter is made by Denso, high end jap stuff.sinjin said:I use a Napa gold filter. Not cheap, but far superior filter than the OEM. Napa part #1358
I installed a leftover OEM from my Warrior, same diameter just a tad longer

I don't know if it is cheaper, if I remember the gold filter was about $12. They do have a cheaper grade of filter also, but I opted for the Gold.

Just a comment about oil filters... size isn't the only thing to consider. The filter media might be different. ie, the smallest particle that can be filtered. This is usually measured in microns (i micron = 1000th of a millimeter)
Also, there are different anti-siphon/drain valves in filters. These prevetnt eh filters from leaking down after the engine shuts down.
SO, size and thread are the obvious things, but it's the internals that might be different and that will make all difference!
Just be sure you know what you're getting when shopping in the aftermarket.
My 2cents...

yes internal materials are different but i have used the same filters since 1990 on bikes that have had the snot beaten out of them.bikes that have gone 20,000 plus miles before trading in with no issue's.also most sled guys are going to change their oil once a season and probally have less then 3000 miles on them.
now the oil thats where i dont skimp on.a good synthetic blend works great.no need for full.
