I will until someone makes a 500 lb or less 165-175 HP 4-stroke mountain sled. I am temped to turbo or supercharge a Apex mountain but do not want to spend that much on a sled that I only ride 3-4 times per year.

Right on same here LOVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes weight is still the #1 limiting factor against the 4stroke, but Yamaha keeps getting better every year. Besides that, you can take you savings from the cost of 1000sdi Skidoo sled and drop your sled in weight quite a bit. For example, Skidoo Renegade = 545 lbs, Attak = 575 lbs. I'm doing the following:
Exhaust - 10 lbs (probably White Knuckle)
A-arms - 8 lbs (probably Pioneer)
Float shox - 3 lbs
battery - 10 lbs (MPI)
I now have my sled down to the same weight as the Renegade, and with power mods I'll have about the same power, with the gas milage and reliability of the 4stroke. Give it another few years and it can only keep getting better.

No 2-strokes in my future, maybe someone else's 4-stroke but never again a 2-stroke. I think this is where Ski-Doo is taking the wrong direction, they may be able to meet emissions, but once people realize the benefit of a 4-stroke, the weight issue becomes a whole lot less important to the majority of riders. Particularly with the "centralized mass " of late model sleds. The weight might be there, but you don't feel it. No more 2-stroke smoke in my garage or trailer, not to mention that riding with them is a pain.

I will never go back to a 2 stroke, I just can't handle the smell and having to mess with oil. When I am blasting through a trail (safely), I can always tell when I am gaining on a two smoke or two infront of me. Then when I catch them and get stuck behind them in a narrow twisty trail, I get nauseas and my eyes start to water etc.... and at night it's worse because the smoke just seems to hang in the air.

The thought completely left my mind when we loaded my buddies REV on my trailer. Still can't get the smell out that took me 3 years to get rid of in the first place
Don't get me wrong, in the right environment I love the smell of a good running 2-smoke, just not when you first fire it up (you know that cloud that engulfs 3-4 acres of land or your entire shop, garage or polebarn) or when following a couple...................

I would never go back...all you have to do is go ride a one and your sold. Funny thing I was out riding my GT last weekend along with my bro riding my Custom SX-R and we switched...I hated the sx, I couldnt wait to get back on my GT...by the way the SX is for sale if anyone wants it...price dropped after that ride.

That must have been hell for you Tom, to be riding 2-strokes while your GT was laid-up in Muni, huh? Which one smelled better, the Yammi, or the Poo? LOL

I hope I never have to think about going back to a 2 stroke!!!
Yamaha better keep on keep'n on with the 4 strokes & sleds in general!!!
I do not want to have to think about another brand or a 2 stroke ever again!!!
I'd pay $2000 more to keep Yamaha 4 strokes, than to save the money & ride a 2 stroke of any brand!!!
The next couple years will tell the story!!!!!!!!

2 stroke????????????????
I agree but disagree. I still like my SRX in certain conditions. Overall I agree that the future is in HI PO 4 stroke technology, but I will never sell my SRX. It's still a cool sled to ride and have been virtually bullet proof.
But my GT is better all around for touring

I will always stay with the 4 strokes, love the RTX I have now and can't wait to sell my Viper for another Apex or whatever Yamaha does. All I ever hear is that the 4 strokes are heavy! Well, they maybe are heavy when parked but they feel light as a feather on the trail.
