whats the track howl thing? I noticed on dads vector the track is noisy, but I think it is that the sled is SOOOOOOOOOOOOO quiet. my ripsaw on the viper is noisy too, but drowned out from the braaaaaaapp. is this what you guys mean by track howl?

I just got the satisfaction I was looking for with my Venture. They are going to install the extra wheel kit for me. This was a battle because they do not plan to do this for the 05 models. It took a letter and about 6 conversations with customer service and the dealer. I had to go to the customer service supervisor to get anywhere. The first guy told me that I was on my own. I think in the end, the only reason I was able to get them to install the wheel kit is because I already have the 2006 rails - they had to be installed under an earlier warranty repair. They have an extra set of holes for the extra wheel kit that the 2005 rails do not.
So the total under warranty is now:
3 sets of wheels -the last being the aftermarket version
3 sets of hyfax
two new rails
extra wheel kit

Not bad considering that most of it was done after the warranty expired. So, for now, I am still a Yamaha customer. The dealer was a huge help - Hudson Cycle Center in Hudson, NH. I highly recommend them.

Hopefully, the extra wheel kit will alleviate the hyfax wear and the aftermarket wheels won't melt.
I am on the hit list for the jackshaft replacment so that will be done when it goes in too. This could end up being the newest 3500 mile sled out there.

Ride fast and take chances.

glad to hear that hudson helped you. they used to be my dealer. then there was some mishaps. does dave gear still work there? he is a family friend, and NOT hte reason I am no longer there. I do all my stuff at pitsburg motorsports now, but I have a place in pittsburg NH, so that helps ;)

I would open up the non clipped holes in the track...should really help hifax wear.

Mainerider- Having to only send a letter and 6 calls to get something fixed that they know is a problem, now that is a caring customer service dept.

They never admitted that its a problem. They tried to tell me that the wheel kits being offered for the 06s is a "promotion". I asked for the direct to consumer information or the message sent to dealers that described this promotion and they told me there is none. I told them that it doesn't sound like much of a promotion since it is so secret, more like fixing a problem with the sled. They tried to blame inadequate snow conditions which I pushed back on because last time I brought it in, the skid was packed with snow and the dealer had to let it thaw before they could work on it. Then they told me my track must be too tight and I said - funny, your dealer did the work. They tried just about every angle to avoid giving me the same thing as the 06 but in the end, they gave in. It seems like poor customer service but I think its pretty typical. That's their job, save the company money and don't admit that they sold a poor design.

sounds like the dealer in my opinion. I had a dealing with yamaha a while back. they said that they rely on the dealer to tell them if someone is trying to pull something over on them or not. I had a ton of problems and had to fight for warranty work. too the same sled elswhere, and got fantastic service. all the problems I was getting from yamaha are suddenly gone and the dealer I WAS at has lost their 5 Star rating with yamaha. they do have to rely on what the dealer tells them is happening since they arent actually seeing the sleds themselves

Go with the SLP Anti-wear pads to reduce the hyfax wear. Here's a post I made recently -

Got 900 miles on my SLP Anti-wear Pads and the verdict is ---------- they frickin work - SWEEEET. Have an 05 RS Venture and after 900 miles have only lost 1.5 mm of hyfax. Last year on 3 different sets of hyfaxes I had lost over 5mm of hyfax at 900 miles. I know, I know that I've made posts telling everyone to be patient, that the slides start to last a long time after 5mm BUT WHO HAS THE PATIENCE - GET the anti-wear pads boys and get some peice of mind.

This only proves that Camoplast or Yamaha is at fault in the design of Ripsaw track. Who do I send the bill to?

3 sets of hyfaxes - $90
Labor to install - $90
Anti-wear pads - $27
Labor to install - $50
Time spent reading and posting to this forum about this problem - $200
Wear and tear on the brain - $50,000

my fathers vector has no hyfax wear after 1100 miles. guess we must have the best luck ever, never had any wear problems except on my 97 600sx, and that was dealer setup

My '98 600SX went through hyfax a lot faster than my Vector does.
