Friend of mine just bought a leftover 2008 Polaris Dragon Turbo four stroke. Paid $7000 for it which I think is an excellent price. Took it out on the lake today....doesn't run good at all and has a check engine light on at 5 miles. I told him this thing would give him trouble. Looks like I was right.
Has anyone had any experience with these? I see some things on it I like a lot....mostly stuff I don't. I'll stick to my Nytro.
It looks like it is code 50. Anyone know what that is?

Thanks.

The funny thing is he rode with us a few weeks ago.....two 09 Nytro XTXs and a 09 Apex....next day he put his 05 800 polaris up for sale and went to the dealer to look at new sleds..LOL He is a good rider and in the rough trails was doing all he could to keep up.

Those really are good sleds.

They sound a little industrial, but they have a lot of power.

Regardless, it is under warranty and should be taken to the dealer for what appears to be a not properly set up sled. That can happen to any of the sledmakers.

oh boy....he saw what he liked (4S Yami), then tried to stick with Brand-X's version of the 4S thinking "they're all the same, right?"...it's really too bad people have to learn life's lessons the hard way.

Life Lesson #1: If you want a 4 stroke sled (and believe me, you want one), Yamaha is the ONLY brand to even consider. The debate in today's world is not "AC, Doo, Polaris, or Yamaha", but rather "Apex, Nytro, Vector, or Phazer".

Saturday heading home from Gaylord Mi. I stopped at a dealership in Houghton lake Mi that sells ski doo, arctic cat and polaris. The service guy told me the polaris 4 stroke had the most problems out of all the sleds they sell, mostly electronic issues.
that's a bummer i like Polaris as well as Yamaha, it is a USA made company.......

I was down @ Spicers in febuary picking up my wifes new FST Switchback, The service dept was full of Doos for coolant usage issues. The 3 guys behind the counter were burnt out over it, The FST is not a perfect sled with wiring issues being the biggest issue, We knew that going in but for ride quality & power imho it is a awsome sled. I have no problem doing my own tinkering so I really dont see any issue for ourselves @ this point.... But we will see.

For ride & power @ this very moment I can see myself buying another one if the deal was right!

I was at sled pit stop on my Apex and a guy riding a Pol Turbo asked me if I liked my sled. I said Yes I love it. He then told me that his sled had nothing but problems, he then disappeared only to return a few minutes later ask for jumper cables because his sled would not turn over?????

Buddys 07 switchback also has check engine light problem as well, along with the reverse motor came lose and put it into reverse at 70 mph brining it to a stop, grinding some gears which were, and still are on backorder cutting his season about a month short. I have to say though the power is decieving and it is quite fast.

Haha, Sunday I had a guy with the same 08 FST Switch come up to me @ the hotdog stand & ask how I liked the sled, I said I love the power & ride. He said he hated the ride & the coupled rear skid would not weight transfer & he was always beat in drag races. What can I say some people are just dumb. I asked if he ever adjusted his skid & of course he said no, Well he was well over 300 lbs & how does Ron White say it? You cant fix stupid! My Doo buddys got a grin from listening to him say his fst did not drag well but they both knew the ride was top notch so it was good for a laugh when tubby the whinner left.
10 min later my Doo buddys bristeling confidence because of what tubby was saying wanted to line em up for our first Doo vers fst drag race, With a bit over 200 miles on the sled I figured what the heck a short pull would be good for it.
It was! 2 800 Doos down as first victims, A 07 REV Gade with DMJ kit & a 01 ZX Gade running a very squeazed 800 done by one of the local snow crossers that runs hard.

Once the wifes sled is broke in I most likley will be getting the ecm reflash that changes from the 4 seconds of overboost to the full on overboost with a few clutching tweaks.

Funny story, I went to CO to pick up a 07 Venture from a care dealer that took two sleds on trade. One was the 07 IQ cruiser, both sleds had 50 miles. I do think it looked like a really sharp sled, and very comfortable. Then the dealer asked me, do you know anything about 4 strokes? The check engine light is on the IQ cruiser. We got the light off. But why would you turbo a touring sled? It's like trying to shave weight in an excursion.

The group of guys I ride with there is 3 FST Turbos,a 07 and two 08 switchbacks. They have been great sleds with over 10,000 miles between the 3 of them with no problems except one broken alternator belt. They ride good get good mpg they just sound odd.

I like that thinking!

We had a turbo P at our grass drags last year...guys are diehard Poo, but great mechanics (for a living). That sucker was FAST!!!!
But what a horrible sound...LOL.
