I am doing the apex seat conversion. I read all the threads I could find and everyone seems to cut the old seat ends off and splice them onto the new apex seat. I would like to leave both wiring harnesses stock on each seat and change the plug ends to match the nex apex seat on the tail light and machine. Plus both those wires are much longer and easy to work with.

go to a yamaha dealer that sell outboards and they will have a case with all the different ends and pins that you need.

I swapped out the wires on each seat. figured the RX seat was worth next to nothing anyways so I just took that out, and put it in the Apex seat. I did not like the cut and splice idea personally. Hate messing with a factory harness if I don't need to.

Thanks for tip on outboard dealer. Problem is my old seat was off an 05 and mint so anyone with a stock 03 or 04 that just wants the extra padding of 05 without any cutting will likely buy it.

Looks like the Apex ones have a rubber gasket inside so that is likely why they updated it. Keep the snirt out.
