Doing my pre-season maintenance and have the sled broken down ('07 Attak GT) and I found this hairline crack (or what appears to be) in the left side bulkhead, behind the secondary. It appears that this is an engine moint point as well. Anybody seen this before? Is it a crack or just possibly from the molding process for the bulkhead? Never had a a crash or impact. Any ideas?

casting marks
I had a clutch with similar marks that I would have sworn were hair line cracks. I took the clutch to and engine builder and had him magnaflux the metal and it showed fine. I ran the clutch for years without problems!

mine looks as bad or worse but it's just casting marks, my dealer look at
pictures i had and they thought is was cracked, took to them and factory rep
said it was fine.

Thanks for putting my mind at ease guys. Looking at it, you would SWEAR they are hairline cracks. But a few years back I had the same worry about opne of the "towers" on the movable sheave and it was the same thing, part of the molding process. Thanks again. I wasnt looking forward to having to have to swap a bulkhead right before the seasons starts..
Heres another related topic (maybe somebody has had experience)..what is the likelihood that if it was a crack in the bulkhead that it would be covered under YES warranty?

I would think that it would be a tough sell unless your dealer really went out on a limb for you.

Bulkhead crack
After finding the cracked pivot arms on my apex GT I went over everything and found the exact same thing...scared the livin cr... out of me ! but before premtive strike on Yamaha ...I got a real closer look and ended up polishing it out completely with emery paper. I then used MPI to check for the crack and there was nothing....so it looks like it is due to the fabrication process - thank god for that eh!
Glad someone else found this though as I thought it was just my sled. My wifes Apex looks fine.
