Anyone still holding their breath for the re-flash?

If the only affect is a re-mapping of the hot start issue, then I'm more comfortable with the update....Cool.

I was also pondering the Evol flash in regards to warranty. I have a month or two to make up my mind if I want to buy into the extended YES warranty. Its reasonably priced but still a good sized chunk of change. Would hate to be denied a claim because of it.

Stopped at the Evol tent and spoke with a rep there as well. Some misconceptions from what I have read here (unless I read them wrong). If you have an interest in what I have heard... feel free to pm me. Guy did say 30hp would be possible doing this and that and 8-10 hp possible with the reflash alone (stock sled).

i was in the same boat as you on saturday.... my dealer cut it pretty plain and simple for me, our factory ECU's do NOT have a memory per say. They are NOT like the ECU's in our vehicles, where the dealer can scan em read em and bring up history on what has/has not been loaded to it. My dealer has been BIG into building factory turbo sleds since the debut of the RX-1, as well as full blown mountain mod sleds. He is very convinced that the ECU flash will come from cat for a few reasons. 1) To his knowledge, there isn't a Yamaha dealer on the planet that has the equipment/software to re-flash or alter an ECU in any way 2) Cat does have this technology, and had successfully utilized it in the past on there own motor(s) (Suzuki) 3) It IS cat's fuel system to begin with and 4) From his families experiences with Yamaha as a family owned dealership since 1984, he believes if it was a Yamaha re flash, that they would be more likely to provide a whole new ECU for dealers to install replacing the old unit rather then just reflashing the current unit.

seems to all make sense to me, and he's pretty straight up knowlogable and a no BS type of guy. what i wouldn't give to be a fly on the wall @ that damn TRF facility for 24 hrs. 12hrs on production and 12hrs in the big board room where all the secrets are discussed......whos gonna start the first poll on wether it's a yamaha or cat flash :) ?

Your dealer is somewhat correct since most dealers don't have ability to reflash Yamaha has in past just replaced ecu like they did for cold start update on phazer. But since evo has been flashing Yamaha ecus for a few years now it is obviously possible. I believe it will be a reflash hopefully with both companies involved.

Those are some big numbers! I'm know nothing about the evo update. So I'm just saying wow...wonder why they didn't have this for the Nytro, or did they.

Well I'm sure it's going to be a Cat reflash, as it's a cat ECU, and it's just going to be helping the hot start issues. Yamaha probably don't even know how to get into cats ECU.

I was told by the yamaha guys that they have to plug our sleds into a computer and connect to arctic cat through the internet for each sled. Sounds like a major PITA! As long as it gets done though I'm not complaining. They can have my sled as long as they need it until snow flies.

The re flash will come from the Vehicle Manufacturer Arctic Cat. Much easier from a EPA point of view as AC has responsibility for emissions on stock platforms. The EPA likes that single line to follow into manufactures records, and so do Manufactures. This does not say that Yamaha or EVO did not assist with or even write some or all of the software for the base and re flashed ECUs. It's just the vehicle manufacturers responsibility for product that goes out the door, it's that simple.

Once protocol and hardware is established, it should be very simple. I do a lot on the GM side it's really quite simple.

For the benefit of all my speculation:

EVO would have an aftermarket "hop up" tune to make more HP etc. (worth noting that it would appear that this reflash does not make 30HP alone and that it needs supporting mods to do so)

YamaCat would have a "bug fix" program that addresses a current issue. This in all likelihood, would not affect loaded engine performance with the possible exception that it could upgrade 2014 models to 2015 standards if something was learned in testing and validated.

I might further speculate that the EVO work will be delayed until YamaCat releases their fix so that it can be incorporated as the base file before mods.

Having done this sort of work on trucks for probably 8+ years now I know what a pain it can be to produce tuning and then have the OE come along with an update/new OS that needs to be incorporated.
