Anyone try the ohlins rear shock on the MTX

Installed a KMOd rear suspension, got about 80 miles on it now, big improvement! Seems to get the sled up on the snow quicker, way better in the bumps and jumping. Lost a bunch of weight also! Have bashed it around pretty good, very impressed, major improvement. Any ideas for front shocks besides floats?

They might be really close. Measuring as best I can with the skid still installed in the sled, the rear shock is 16 1/4"(might be longer when out of the skid), and the front is 12 3/4".

zbroz is going to be selling some shocks. triple rate springs, compression adjust piggybacks. I think 1050 for the front, and I believe they set them up for your weight. I think the compression adjust is around 7-8 hundred.

While expensive, it is not too bad to get a really good shock setup. 300 for triple rate springs, 100 for valving. 400 bucks on top of any shock you could buy or the gytr clickers and about the same money in the end.

I am looking for the funds to do this, as I bottom hard, 210lbs full gear. Picking your way through the woods, it would be nice to drop 5 ft to flat if needed to without slamming.

I do like the suppleness of the suspension though small bumps and high speed rollers. Hopefully the triple rate springs will keep some of this, but firm up the bottom a lot.

Curious how the KMOD would work for flat drops. Would be a nice way to go and not spend a lot in the process.

I also put in the ohlins and it really helps stop the bottoming but I think the heavier springs will also be needed,,,,I am changing to timbersled anyway :4STroke:

Already sold.....sorry :rules

Why Timbersled over Ohlins? Is it just weight? Or do you think the floats are more tunable or higher performance?

The timbersled rear is so much cleaner than stock I was in 4' of powder and came out with an honest 3 ice-cream pails of snow in the susp The 30 lb drop doesn't hurt either I am going to have to tune the rear and front for me haven't had a chance to do it yet just jumped on and rode...02 :4STroke:

Please take the time to fill out your location in your profile, site rules.

Thanks!

Have got about 350 miles on my KMOD skid, very, very impressed.Have rode in a big variety of conditions, works very well. Handles the bumps way better than stock, way better transfer, attack angle of track vastly improved, gets up on top of the snow way better than stock, could have something to do with losing 20+ lbs. also. Buy the way anybody from Edmonton, Alberta area up for riding? Sledding buddies dropping like flys, too expensive, broke down, etc etc etc. Would luv too hear from you.

This is my only real concern with the 08 MTX. I can get an 08 MTX with the Ohlins in the back or a stock 09 MTX for roughly the same price. Which is better etc. Thoughts please? I need to decide soon...

I was in the same boat, I spent the $500 on the snowcheck but now Im pretty sure Im just gonna buy a used Nytro off the owner of our yamaha dealership. The 08 has exhaust, bar riser, clutch kit, K&N intake kit, and the ohlins rear shock with stiffer springs, and it's the same price as a new one. Even with losing the $500 deposit Im still in better shape. I figure with the used one I cant lose, it even has 2 more years engine warranty and 1 more year full warranty and only 900 KM on the sled, I don't even have to break it in
