I used my Yamaha backpack for the first time a few weeks ago on a 3 day tour we did in Northern Ontario. I was skeptical at first how it was going to feel but I really liked it. We do quite a bit of off trail riding and saddlebags really get in the way when jumping back and forth on the running boards when riding the powder.
If you keep the straps set pretty loose it actually sits on the back hump of the seat as well. Worked for me.
I'm happy with the backpack and a tank bag combo and find no need for saddlebags. Plus my buddies stuff got wet using saddlebags in warm, wet conditions and my stuff was dry.
