Here is the link to the Bergstrom trail grabbers, I'm wondering if anyone has put these in a paddle track like the Maverick where it has the fingers on the end of the paddles ? We have a lot of ice we ride over coming and going to the mountains and glaciers we ride on. Crossing these glare ice area's especially when skipping the rivers and hitting a 30 or 50 feet section of ice get's hairy on a long track sled. If your a little off or angled the #*$&@ tries to swing around then when you hit the snow it's harsh. So I'm wondering if I could use these to give me a little traction in this type of situation.......any thoughts ? This is for an 07' Apex mnt.

You might want to post this in the two mountain sections. I have never used them in my sleds but, we don't see much ice either.

I plan to put 216 of them into my 136" RipSaw (at the recommendation of Scott Bergstrom). Not looking for hole-shots just some stabilization in the corners and on the slick stuff.

I'd love to know what you think of them in the Ripsaw..... I just can't imagine any durability given the 'tooth' design of the paddles and the flexibility of them. There just doesn't seem to be enough 'meat' to the track to crew the into.

I do like them and have them in my wifes (older non rip saw) sled.
But to screw them in to the narrow ripsaw or other thin paddle tracks, that could be a problem.

I can see what your thinking BUT, if they were a liability do you think BERGSTROM would be selling them and promoting them ? I don't think so!

I use them on my 159" 2" a lot of the hill climbers use them on the rmsha circuit they work just fine on a paddle track, I actually just bought some screws from ace hardware, alot cheaper. 1 1/2" in a 2" paddle works good.

All Bergstrom would have to say is that they were installed incorrectly. My neighbor used them in one of my old Mach Z's and I can't remember how many he lost but it was alot..............alaskanbowtie said:>>>COLDONE said:Mighty, I was thinking the same thing when I was reading the first post!

what type of screws you use? stainless self tappers ? Do they round off smooth very quickly? We don't ride trails here, it's all open untouched riding.....Alaska is great!

I just buy stainless self tapping, 1 1/2" long I ran two in each paddle up the center, no problems with them coming out, I ride the mountains no groomed trails, they really help in the firmer spring contitions, I leave the outer paddles empty so it still works in the deep stuff, the main reason I do it is to stiffen the paddles for firm snow, we don,t have to worry about much ice except in the spring time when it turns to concrete. like I said befor if you have ever been to a rmsha hill climb most of the riders are using screws in thier mountain tracks, as long as you are using longer screws inch to 1 1/2 I don,t think you will have them come out. I can see were there might be a problem with the shorter one,s. I pre drill each hole befor installing the screws, hope this helps.
