New to this site. Excellent info on here.
I just recieved my 05 Rx1, My dealer convinced me to put 196 (magnum studs 1.7 stick out 1/4 of an inch from the lug). He installed 4 per lug, they are also installed in the center and the outside of the track.

The question is does anyone have the same set-up and how does it affect handling. Should I have put less studs on. I'm worried that this sled is gona want to go straight in turns.

Studs sticking out 1/4 of an inch is that what every body use for lenght?

I asked for 144 in the middle, the dealer argued with me that with the HP it has that the track would not last, studs would be wripping out like crazy?

Any Input/advice would be appreciated.
Thanks :rocks:

First off welcome to the site.
I hate to say this but I believe your dealer pulled a fast one on you to make an extra buck. I had 192 in that junk finger track on my 03 and it pushed in the corners pretty bad. The Ripsaw offers so much more traction over the finger track I believe you will have the same issues I did and most likely worse. I installed 126 in my Warrior's Ripsaw and think it's perfect. 126 is 2-2-3-2-2-3 and I went only up the middle.

Welcome to the site!

Ive got the longer version of your track 136.. and without studs it rides like a sled with studs..

I currently have 130 in it and im sure its plenty..

The setup he gave you will be great if all you do is drag race.. but forget it in the corners.. IT WILL PUSH LIKE A MOTHER!!

I wouldnt go longer than a 1.40 stud... It will hit the tunnel without extra 1/4protectors!

Thanks for the reply. The sled has not been driven yet...what would be my options...if there's any? maybe Remove the studs on the outside of the track? Just wondering.

I have 168 on my 136" and that is plenty, 3 per bar. My suggestion is remove on outside especially if he put one on every outside bar. You may find you need more than two per bar but try it first. My other concern is how he positioned the studs on the centre bars.

Second I would find a new dealer.

I run 192, 4 per paddle and stud on the outside. Installed correctly, you will be fine, the guys ripping studs out are the guys who didnt install them correctly. You need to keep the outside studs very very close to the center of the outside belt. Do not get the studs out towards the edges of the outside belt. The track is obvoisly weaker out there so anyting out towards the edges will be more likely to pull out. Also, do not over or under tighten them. I have always studded this way and have only had pull throughs when they were installed wrong. Also note I have seen pull throughs on the inside belt of the track just about as often as the outside. Its all about the install...BBY

Agree with BBY. I have 04 RX1-ER, 192 studs centre and outside. There was some push with stock carbides....changed to Bergstrom...now not a problem. Track after one year is perfect..studs were installed correctly.

Welcome to the site. Question???????????????????????????????
Why do you need studs in New Brunswick?
Most people I know from there never used studs till they moved to Ontario, and thats because we have so many lakes to run here and New Brunswick get way more snow compared to us here.

I have 192 studs on my 03 RX-1 (finger track), which provides great traction, the problem as pointed out in previous posts, is the lack of steering control in the corners. The cure....... Woodys Doolys, which cured any darting, and will turn the sled even on ashphalt.

Sledheadgeorge,
Most sledders in the southern part of the province run studs, due to extremely hardpacked/ice conditions resulting from the occasional mild spells and subsequent deep freeze that occur.

The Magnum 1.7 does'nt mean they are 1.7". These are equal to 1.35 woody's. The are 1/4 of an inch higher than the track lug...I find this high ...But it looks like thats what people use.

As you can tell by the name, I use 192. You can't call me 191 woodys, i haven't lost 1 yet.
