Anything new with exhaust donuts?

Travis is great. Check out all the other cool stuff he has for the Apex model. You might want more stuff!

Well I literally just went through it (2 weeks ago), and could do it in my sleep now. I'm happy to help, as I want to pay it forward for all the great people on this site that have helped me. Tips, tricks, etc...I can help if you want it. Here's my thread, which started with just wanting to swap the exhaust. :) Not all of what I learned is in there, but a lot is.

And one thing I've learned with the sled I just bought (which I knew, but had a lapse in judgement), don't believe anything someone, who is trying to sell you something, says. :D

Thanks for the info...I have to say this site and the help everyone is willing to provide has been a huge help. Thanks everyone!

Just curious what your reasoning is for oem donuts.

I recall someone else on this forum stating in a different post that the copper donuts do not create a tight enough seal (i.e. firmer, not as soft) like the OEM ones do; at least that was his experience. However, that was not my experience with the ones I used on my Apex and Nytro and believe the copper donuts the user who posted that comment had gotten their copper donuts off eBay rather than from some reputable source like yourself or Ulmer Racing or Port Yamaha.

Here's a pic of 4 installed.

Looks like he's not running the site anymore.

What is the best way to determine if I need new donuts? Should I just pull it apart and have a look? If I start it and cover the exhaust and it bogs and shuts off...my donuts should still be good correct?
Youll know...one day, it just won't sound quite right, under the tunnel..Donuts every time. Last time, it was only one leaking, the others looked great.

Mine is an 06 Attak with 4800KMS, 3rd owner. Previous owner to me never did them but had the sled into our Yamaha Dealership last year and they checked over everything and said it was good to go...not sure if they looked at donuts though. I'm going to have a look to check the donuts and pipes/flanges to make sure all is good. I don't want any surprises when the snow comes. I'm not a mechanic by any means but am not afraid to pull it apart...I've seen enough videos and posts to hopefully not screw it up!
It's not hard....as long as all the bolts come loose!

oops - thought there were 2 more at the Y pipes. but didnt look into it too far. - Thanks!
For the two in the Y-pipe, you just go with the OEM's

The ones where the Y pipes connect to the muffler/silencer are more like a mesh. Haven't really heard of them going bad. Mine were good on the muffler I bought used.

I unhooked muffler from y pipes, drilled out rivets on y pipe bracket and tried to slide it back. Couldn't get enough room so unbolted y pipes from bracket.

I used PB blaster on all bolts before trying to loosem and let them soak overnight. Everything came apart easily. I soaked the flange clamps on the flex pipes (4 Allen bolts), the y pipe bracket bolts and the muffler
to Y pipe bolts.

I would also recommend new Allen bolts on the flex pipe clamps so you don't risk stripping them. I did this.

Hi new member here. I am questioning changing over to the copper myself. I have around 4000 miles on my 13 nytro xtx and decided to inspect the gaskets as I heard the OEM gaskets can be problematic. Well low and behold the OEM looked perfect. I am planning to replace to new anyways since I'm already this deep. I am concerned that the copper will not seal and conform like the OEM and would also be harder on the exhaust flanges as copper is way more solid then the OEM graphite. I have both the oem and copper ordered, now just need to make my mind up. I did order the copper on ebay; however, stated they are made in the USA with 100% guarantee and 3 were around 60 bucks. If I owned an APEX there would be no question to switch to the copper. But since its a nytro I'm unsure. Advice, comments, reasoning as to which is better would be appreciated.

Thanks

The Copper ones are the way to go. I just did them on my nytro a few weeks ago and they fit nicely.
