I was on holiday this past week and had time to reread some of my snowmobile mags and happen to find sled reviews from Snow Tech where they publish weights of the sleds. I began to realize how much my attack out weighs those sleds as well as my 05 Rev. What are you guys going to do? Curious to see what is out there and what people will do.

Thanks
Matt
;)!

I think most of us are just going to turn key and ride....

I can see the mountain guys shaving some weight though, but nothing a turbo can't fix

Dan

I think you need to ride it to understand that that small ammount of weight isn't going to make a difference.

You are going to love your attack trust me.

I am wondering what it is being compared to? A ditch banging sled or a trail sled? I know they list it as a rough trail sled, but they definetly don't intend for it to compete with the ditch bangers do they? Is the Rev considered a ditch banger or a trail sled? Or is it a new kind of hybrid? The attack seems to be a nice trail sled with some cross country bred into it. What do the other manufacturer cross country sleds weigh in at?

Here are some of the sleds to compare.

1. 04 Rev Renegade 600 sdi 535 lbs wet, no gas
2. 04 Polaris Switchback 800 509 lbs wet, no gas
3. 04 Warrior 625 lbs wet, no gas.

Big difference. Lets assume that they are REAL weights. I realize the weight of the Attack is less than the warrior. These are comparable sleds except for the 600 cc, but put an 800 in it and it will only go up a few pounds.

It is just my opinion, that weight will wear on you after a while. I hope not because I am looking forward to my Attack, but I am concerned about the weight.

The Doo and Polaris have remained about the same while the Warrior lost weight in 05 and then more again when it became the Attak. Unless you are a true Ditchbanger you will most likely love the sled. If you are a ditchbanger, don't accept deliver of the Attak and wait till 07 when Yamaha finally offers one :ORC

Here's what I think about the weight thing. It's not about how much it weights it's the sled center of gravity. That is were MY 03 RX-1 was better then my SRX's I owned and this 2006 Apex is ahead of the RX-1 in CG technology.

Let me ask you this did you ever feel a difference in your sled when it had close to 100 pounds of fuel in it compared to when it was almost empty. I can tell you in all my years of riding I cannot tell the difference.

So Like I said it CG that is most important.

Just my 2 cents

Half tank to a full tank is a lttle hard, but a full tank to an 1/4 tank is distinguisable. I can tell when my sleds needs gas, you can feel it. Maybe that just comes from experience.

Experience? Ok

I can only speak for me and ever person I've ever ridden with "we can't feel the difference". I've asked many people this same question and I always get "I cannot tell the difference".

The 04 600 SDI was heavier than 535. The renegade is even heavier. And someone would have to be high to think that the 04 switchback 800 is 509 lb's wet. No matter what sled you ride you can't feel the difference of a full and 1/4 tank of gas. Anyone who tells you he can is full of it. We're talking 500 plus lb machines here. I can tell when I'm empty and low on my R1, but only because of how the bike wheelies. On a sled its a no go.

Yamaha has offered one already. For anyone who's riden the new 06's they both handle very nimble and take the bumps like a champ. I guess you'd have to ask yourself what exactly is a "ditchbanger." I ride the infamous Tug Hill area. They sport at different times of the weeks/year some of the nastiest trails out there. That's ditchbanging at it's best or worst however you look at it. Yet my 05 RX handles right along with the cats and polaris's. I can keep up with Doo's but it beats me up a little more. Now that the riding position and setup is different for 06 that gap is closed.

From the videos I've seen of the apex , they've got them balanced so nice that they seem a lot lighter than they are , Put a turbo on and all talk of weight is a non issue , especially when you blow past em with the ski's in the air .

For all but heavy ditch banging or severe off trail most people will never know the difference in weight. On the other hand fast trail and lake crusing the weight is a big advantage in stability. . Iv'e owned Rev renegade and mach Z. I'll take the Warrior/attak anyday! Studdog.

Yamahnator, my sled wheelies all the time, so I guess I can't tell the difference, because it's a sled. Oh ya, I guess a bull shitter too. You have know right, calling anyon is a bullshitter. When I'm running down a trail @80-100mph and I go over a few risies I can certtainly tell if the tank is full or it has a 1/4 tank in it, as how high the front end wants to wheelie after coming off a small or large rise. I'm not sure how fast you drive, nor do I really care, but in the fast groomed trails in Ontario, I can tell you when it's full and when it's notl, by the way the sled performs and reacts at high speeds.

Rotax, I agree with you to a certain extent. On a lighter sled like some of the one's you have been riding I can imagine feeling a difference between empty and full. But most of us are use to riding tanks, and it is much harder to tell the difference. I know that I couldn't on my MachZ's, RX-1 and Warrior.

i guess i never thought of it...when i ride i try to have as much fun as possible..not worry about trying to figure out if my sled is noticable lighter with a quarter tank of fuel!!!
