Anyone know anything about the mirrors in the 2007 Yamaha accessories catalog. Shows two different types one type must mount on top of side cowl and the other maybe handlebar mount. This is the one I am questioning, part no. 8FP-W2628-01-KT. Any info appreciated.

The part number you have for the kit above is the style that mounts on the side panels. This has been the only kit released by Yamaha to fit the Apex/Attak style sleds. The 07 accessory catalog has a misprint as the other number they show for Apex mirrors supersedes to the number above. Also the picture shown is that of the kit to fit an RX/RS body style sled (RS Venture style kit).

So, are these mirrors a decent option? Do they work well, and can you fold them to put on your cover? I got spoiled on my last sled (99 Vmax DLX) by having excellent mirrors, and want to put them on my Apex. I got discouraged by the information regarding the Yamaha mirrors available for Apex/Attak. Looks from the info here on TY that all one could see is their own knees. I thought maybe the ones in '07 accessory catalog were different, but was hoping to find someone that knew for sure.

i just installed the new yamaha mirrors on my 07 apex - i think the mounting blocks are new (not sure i never seen the 06 mirror set up it might be the same) the 07 kit i got mounts to the side covers but on the top - they give you a new reverse sticker for your side panel - they mount there - they seem to be very soild and look factory - i haven't rode with them so i do not know about the vision - seems to be poor to fair - not as good compared to my 06 yamaha vector mirrors but looks better - i am glad i went with them - (they do fold in and i can see more then my knees but not much more)

Have you tried to put the cover on with them? Due to locally dismal snow, I usually have to trailer a ways and wouldn't put them on if they were too big of a pain to use a cover.

Interesting topic for this newbie. Just bought my first Yamaha today. I went with the Apex ER and didn't buy the mirrors while at the dealer today because I wasn't sure how much visibility I would get based on what they looked like in the box. I would love to see some pictures of these mirrors mounted.

06GT,
I just got this kit (dealer ordered it and sent it to me). Did you get a mounting template with the kit and decals??? All I got was the hardware. Is there a template?

The only mirrors that looked good and had excellent rear view coverage with a convex lens were the one's I had on my '05 Vector. They are just like the mirrors from Yamaha's sportbikes and fold flat when covered.
The others are not worth the money IMHO.
They are standard on the RS Venture.

My dealer didn't have them in stock (I saw them) and would have gotten them (Closest dealer is 200 miles from me, so I had him send me the other kit)....I found a template on snowmobileworld.com that says it's for the mirror kit (8FP-W2628-01-KT), and it looks like it would work except the three template holes don't match up exact and the location of the base plates look to be different than the pics 06GT posted.
I called my dealer and they contacted Yamaha, and they said that there are dimples in the panel where you are supposed to drill the holes (thet also said that there is no template for the kit(???). I pulled back the foam, and can't see any dimples....so before I start drilling, I was hoping someone could set me straight!

I got the kit pictured above on 06GT's sled. It does come with a template, actually two, one for each side. You have to use tape to hold the template on to mark the holes, they aren't self-adhesive. Finally got at chance to try out the new mirrors on a trip across Lake of the Woods between Xmas and New Years. They aren't nearly as functional as the mirrors on my 99 vmax, but they do definitely help. I found I have to move my head around to see what I'm looking for in the mirrors, on my older sled, that wasn't necessary. One thing that would improve them is if the mirrors were slightly convex, they are just flat glass. You know the "objects are closer than they appear" type thing, you get a much larger field-of-view if they're convex. I do tend to see more of my knees with these new mirrors than I need to. Also, the gauntlets on my gloves have a tensioner cord for the cuffs that seems to be right in the way - most of the reason I need to move my head around to see. It would also help if they had a larger range of movement in the ball sockets. To sum up, they do the job, but not as well as I hoped.

Just noticed that I need to change my signature now - just sold the old 95 Vmax 600 last night. Gonna kind of miss the old girl, she was nearly bulletproof as far as reliability. Won't miss it over the big bumps, though!

Thanks BigFoot. Seems my dealer is getting some bad info. Any suggestions as to who to contact to get the template?
I may just take them back and get the ones that NiceRumble suggested. I saw them on an Apex, and they're nice.

06gt,
Do you really mean to say that you are glad you went to a mirror that obviously doesn't work, because they look good?
I hope I misunderstood what you said.
I use a mirror that does work, and in my opinion, looks pretty good, but most people dismiss it because it doesn't look sexy enough.
It's the artic cat windsheild mirror.
