interested in an apex/attak next year, but i haven't gotten any good seat time on one to make an informed decision, only a demo ride last year on the attak under slow and smooth conditions, not enough to give a real impression of the sled.
so........ who can give me the straight skinny on these two? none of the kool-aid drinker "yammies are the best, all else suck" ra-ra crap, i want honest, unbiased opinion, who's been disappointed, any problems to report, tweaks that need to be made, is weight really a factor is you take it off trail, did you come from another brand, would you go back to it, etc.
thanks for the input guys

I'd like to know if you can throw these Apex sleds around a bit, or do you have to go for the Phazer if you like hitting some drifts and big bumps here and there ? I realize that any sled can be damaged if you abuse it, but is it possible to ditchbang the Apex to some extent ?

if you are going to ditchbang with it then it needs fox floats up front and the rear shock needs to be revalved. its the best trail sled i have owned, but the rear bottoms way too easily. btw i weigh 170 and dont ride all that hard.

this is what concerns me since i DO ride fairly hard and weigh in near 225-230 geared up if you bottom at 170 with moderate riding i can't imagine i wouldn't be slamming that thing down hard
are there uprated springs/shock valing specs for it? specifically the attak

I'm 270-280 & with my Attak rear spring set on #7 I've had no issues with bottoming out!
I ride moguls like they aren't there!
3000 MILES NOW!!!
Just need handwarmer update!!!

Redneck, here is no-bull answer to your question.
Rode 1600 miles last week on my Attak, including one 300 mile day. Never sore at the end of the day so the rider position is spot on.
Handwarmers absolutely suck on both models. Hand-guards will help deflect wind off your hands, and gauntlets work well when it drops below -17C. There are some fixes mentioned on this site and Yamaha is suppose to address the issue. The rear inner idler wheel shredding problem has been fixed with the new batch of wheels from Yamaha.
Some other members and I decided to swap sleds and compare each others, so I got to ride an Apex ER and the GT. The GT shock was definitely more smooth than my Attak. It soaked up the small bumps better. Not that the Attak was bad, the GT was just more smooth.
The extra track length of the Attak provides much better traction than on the Apex models. I found the shorter track models to be squirrelly coming out of the corners. This is my first 136" track sled and I don't think I lost any cornering ability. My opinion is that the longer track is the best model for the 150 EFI motor and Delta II chassis.

I have the RTX and weigh the same as yourself all geared up, I did notice alittle bit of bottoming, but switched springs ($80.00 or so) and all went away, also my warmers work pretty well, but could be better, also inside wheels were shredded but dealer replaced them and all is good. The ride for me is great, I ride with a bunch of nuts who like to really give her threw the trails, and the RTX is right with them, ( spending a little time dialing in the sled is well worth it) also this sled is pretty decent for hitting a few jumps here and there I still go farther then my Doo buddies, but maybe that is just me. This is the most comfortable sled I have ever been on, you can ride for hours and not feel any aches in your body. also the best part is decent gas mileage and very little if any oil use.......
