I noticed last weekend my Apex seems to completely down/back shift when letting off gas from higher speeds. Then when you reengage throttle, it doesn't grab the transmission immediately - has to build a few RPM's. Maybe I'm being overly critical, but I checked the belt/clutches just to get an idea of what might be going on. No belt dust, no wear on the belt at all - but the belt sits low - approx 1/4 inch ( I did not measure) in the sheaves.

The manual says a certain amount over and below the sheave is normal, but when exceeding a certain spec it says to shim the clutch. I'm going to have the dealer check it when in for my next service cause I wouldn't do it myself. Just didn't seem that smooth between full backshift and re-engaging throttle. Anybody have a comment on this condition?

Otherwise - I can' imagine why I'd want a different sled. Performance, ride, comfort - this sled has it all. On the lake, side by side with my 80 lbs son riding an '09 Vector GT, from full stop, Apex blew it away - not even close. Vector never even sniffed a 1 ft. lead. I was surprised because Vector feels fast to ride, but not even close to the performance of an Apex.

Stock apex clutching is very aggressive. It upshifts too hard a lot of times. Clutching is a trade off. When you have very fast upshift you lose backshift. can,t have both.

I have this same 'issue' with my 07 Apex and figured it wasn't so much the secondary backshifting as much as it was the primary engagement RPM. Went to a lighter primary clutch spring to lower the engagement RPM(could have gone w/heavier weights), so I'm not waiting (as long) for the clutch to engage. Seems to have helped some, but I still experience it from time to time.
I got into the habit of giving the throttle a couple of quick snaps when coming out of a tight turn to keep the RPM up a bit and I don't have to wait as long for the primary to grab the belt.

Good to know others understand what I'm talking about and have experienced it. Sounds pretty much normal with harsh engagement. As long as it's normal, I have no real problem with it. I also thought about a new spring to lower engagement - I'll ask the dealer.

Otherwise, after having an Apex for 2 years now, even though I 'd like to save the bucks and buy a 2011 Vector next year, I doubt I could ever be without the power of an Apex. Sure is fun to ride.
