Guys,
Rode my Apex for about 150 or so miles with no issues on Friday night. It sat for a few hours and when I tried to start it up the motor cranked but wouldn't start. I had accidently left my GPS (hard wired to the battery) plugged in and running while it sat and my initial thought was that even though the motor turned over and the fuel pump was running that perhaps the battery had drained enough that it wasn't sending fuel. At this point the sled wasn't throwing any codes, it just wouldn't fire.
The next morning I went to pick the sled up and again tried starting it. Again it cranked over without any hint that it would start, but this time it showed Code #12. I did some searching and it seems like when you get this code a new stator is in order, but it could be as simple as a loose connection, faulty relay, or a drained battery. I haven't had a chance to dig in it and look for anything out of the ordinary, but I'm wondering if anyone else has had this issue and if they found something other than replacing the stator.. i.e., which spots I should be checking for rub throughs or loose connections.
Here are some specifics about my sled that may or may not be relevant:
06 Apex RTX 10,400 miles
New battery this year
SledStart HID's
Original bars with upgraded hand warmer harness (never above 3 bars)
Hardwired GPS. I'm running an inline fuse and an on/off toggle switch
I'm prepared to pick up a new stator assembly if I have to, but I don't want to find out it wasn't the problem after replacement. Me and volt meters aren't really friends.

Have you tried Charging the Battery or Jumping to see if it starts? Start with easy stuff first? Check all connections especially any recent work.

Crank Position Sensor. I had this last year happen. Your stator may still be good but the sensor that is attached is not reading proper. It must be replaced. I founsd a used one it works well.

I haven't tried that yet. The battery has enough charge that it turns the motor over without any problem, but I'll probably hook it up to a charger just to eliminate that possibility.

I did some quick searching and didn't see anyone selling this sensor separately. Looking at the microfiche it looks like this is all one part? Is there a connector or did you have to splice / solder the new sensor to your old stator?

Hey MARQ,
I'm not sure if you can splice its alot easier to just find one on Ebay. I went and got a used one from a wrecked APEX. I was just going to buy a new one but there was a 6 week back order on them. (FEB)
Find one used I paid $200 CDN cash. It works nicely and it was from a 2009 to fit my 2006.
Got the dealer to install cause the next day I was getting married....lol when I came back from honeymoon it was done.

Now that's funny!

Just a though - I was riding 2 yrs ago in the UP with my buddy on an 06 RTX running along and the sled just shut down I almost rear ended him. He started it it refired went about 50' and shut down again. It would crank but not fire. I towed him to PATS yamaha in Greenland. They looked at it could not get it to start. He traded it on the spot for Nytro we rode off. 2 weeks later he was due for an oil change we stopped at Pats and they told us they worked for 2 days on the sled. The mechanic was going to try to start it and stepped on the running board and it fired and then died when he got off. Found out that there is a wiring loop that runs to those relays behind the fascia cover that had rubbed through the insulation.

Yep, the relay clicks when you turn the key, and the fuel pump runs

If you have a little mechanical skill you can take out the stator and have your dealer check it out. Mine tested bad and I replaced it with a new one (the stator number has changed a few times maybe a update) and all was well. Drain oil out of oil tank,remove oil tank, unplug wire connector, remove RH engine side cover, and you can take to be tested. The stator is bolted into the cover. Not to bad of a job.

The mechanical aspects don't bother me, I just don't have much experience with volt meters and such. In some of the other threads about this, some of the responses centered mainly on checking the stator and crank sensor, which I know I could get tested by friends or my dealer. Before I tear it apart I just wanted to check on here to see if anyone discovered other things I should check before getting that far. I might look into it tomorrow. There isn't any snow, so I'm not in a hurry.. I'll keep you guys posted on what I find.

Finally got around to replacing the stator, and it fired right up - so it looks like that was the problem. My dad hooked up a meter to each one, but I'm not sure what he checked, but they gave different readings.
Has anybody heard of anyone doing stator repairs? There's obviously something wrong with my original but there isn't any obvious issues. If the price is right, I'd rather fix and keep as a spare instead of tossing in the trash..
