Apex GT is the same as RTX, almost

Thanks for the info, guys. I think I am going to go with the GT. I like the electronically adjustable shock and I think highly of the ohlins. And the 6 pound difference between the GT and RTX (w/reverse) is negligible for me. Now to find the best dealer....

You may be right on the manual rebound adjustment for the GT, I’m not sure, but It does have more adjustments. I never really fiddled with it on the demo rides.
The jury is still out on the front shocks, but to be honest I don’t mind the standard front shocks on my RX-1 which seem to last forever. Getting the RTX was more of a colour and styling thing for me. The Fox floats have good anti bottoming qualities that other shocks don’t have. I’m still not sold on them till I see the durability, but I would prefer to have that type of shock for the rear skid. The Fox Floats are just starting to get popular and are well known in the race circuit. Other then that, the 3 pound weight savings with Floats is not important to me....We shall see..

They both have some awesome colors. The GT just looks mean with the black and midnight. I really like that.

RTF14, I too had this same dilemma. During the snow check/power surge last spring, I could of had either or with a $400 cost difference. I thought about all the adjustability, Ohlins, Front Clicker vs Floats, Avg. Rear Shock and then I thought about where I ride. I decided to go with the RTX for some simple reasons...1) we ride well groomed trails out and all day so most suspensions are well suited 2) the rough stuff is when we return to town, usually 5-10 miles out is very rough and the RTX is made for very rough 3) I'm not a tinkerer. Once I set up my suspension so there is little to no bottoming in the very rough stuff, thats it for me, I won't touch it again. The GT is all about the ability to adjust, which some folks love to do. I'm just not one of them. Usually it's darn cold and windy and I just want to ride. So I decided against the GT, saved the money, saved the weight and went with those cool looking fox shocks. That works for me. I highly suggest you take a close look at your riding to determine what is right for you. Just my .02

I ordered the Gt. I am pretty much a gas and go rider, not enough snow in MD to tinker and test much. I actually much prefer the look of the RTX, plus I already have red and black riding gear since I have an SX7. I know that Floats are widely and successfully used in racing but I just preferred the idea of the front clicker reservoir shocks and the electronic Ohlins rear has a real cool factor plus the great Ohlins reputation. I also think the chrome looks great, just like the red chrome better.

The RTX that I ordered has reverse!
Yeah, but its OPTIONAL. Check out the specs on www.yamaha-motor.com if you dont believe me.
Cap'n

I was told by the dealer that initially reverse was an option on the RTX, but due to the large number ordered with reverse yamaha was going to build all of them with it.

Now that would less than impress those of us that paid for it. :o|

I guess the point is.. just about everyone did pay for it.

I looked pretty close at those GYT clicker front shocks and from a looks stand point they don't hold a candle to the ohlins. The clicks of the adjuster knobs feel very sloppy compared to the ohlins and the ohlins just look like "more beef" in thier construction. IMO.

:ORC Either way, they'll both depreciate just as fast. Buy the one that's more limited quantity, you might get back a little more dough when you sell it 16 months from now.

I hope I don't sell it in 16 months. This sled should last me a while. Oh, BTW, I won't be getting my GT until November. I hope they mean November 1st when they say November. :(
