Went for a ride today, got about 7 km then red light and yellow came on sled started to bog so I shut it off cause I thought it over heated. Started right up after letting it cool down but it went 5 feet died again, no warning lights but on the LCD the engine symbol and the temp symbol came on.
Let it sit while a fellow Yamaha rider doubled me to the truck. Came back to pick it up, it would start but die when it hit 3500 rpm and still no movement. any ideas ?????

Never had it happen to me but i think i have heard that when the drive shaft bearing goes out and takes the speedo pickup out it can shut the motor down above idle, Would be worth checking.

Exact same thing happened to me (2006 Apex ER) last year. My driveshat bearing went, ended up taking out the speedometer pick-up. Sled would start and idle, but once it reached engagement, the engine would cut-out. It did however, work slightly in reverse. Try that out and see what happens. Good luck! Any questions, pm me.

Have you guys been greasing that bearing every year? Just wondering just so I can prepare and change that bearing. I grease mine once a year and at the end of the year its ready for more. No rust or sign of anything on 6000km hmm

What type of grease are you using? lithium? And do you flush the bearing first or just pack some more in?

just regular bearing grease. Pop it and I just smear some in there with my finger. Just make sure it goes back on properly or you may run into problems

Thanks guys, When I pulled off the secondary, I noticed that the drive bearing was gone causing the speed pickup to be shaved down and melted a bit. Thanks again for the replies.......
