Apex hood w/airbox lid

hey machzed....you say you adjusted the fuel on the pod,i know how to do this but my question is how did you know how far to adjust the number that showed on the pod for each cylinder,to do this correctly to ensure that each cylinder is producing the same(getting same air to fuel mixture)you have to use an exhaust gas analizer on each header tube to see what the air/fuel mixture is at the factory setting ,then you adjust to make all the cylinder's air/fuel mixture the same, i think my factory numbers ranged from 1 to 5,they varied between the 4 cylinders and the air/fuel mixture was not even close to being the same on all cylinders,if i remember right the magic number for air/fuel mixture was like 13.2/1(dont qoute me on that )and mine ranged from 12.5 to 14.5 to 1 before we took the reading and adjusted this, ive heard of sleds with numbers on pod ranging from -5 to 20 so im not sure how a simple adjustment could work on every sled, lets say you went in and just bumped all the numbers up by 5,then you might have one cylinder that is perfect and one way too rich and one way leaner than the others, makes more sense to me if they are all the same by reading the exhaust gas, lots of people can vouch that my sled works well and im glad to share info with fellow yamaha guys, hope i didnt confuse anyone with this book i just wrote

I followed the link directions.....adding 10....where mine were all set to 0.

by adding 10 as Ulmer recommends, this should get over any stumbling created by the leaner conditions the ram air creates.

I am not sure why you think any of the cyls should be different in this aspect...since STOCK they were all equal and at 0.....the ram air opens up the airway to ALL 4 cyls equally....IMO you should add EQUAL amounts of fuel to the low speed adjustment..

IE: +10 to cyl 1,2,3 4........or 5 or 12 or 20...anyway you look at it,i think the number you set each cyl to should all be same.

170 I can relate to ur post. And I agree with what u said. I do not know how to change with the pod yet as i havent even got to see my GT yet.

It must be quiet a job to put egt`s in the apex? I would think it would be a good tuneing tool though. I just want to have a really good running Apex.I will only trail ride 90% of the time but i want to go to the lake or race a Z and noy get totally smoked if possible. What do u think of clutching is it what people claim? I gotta know where u guys hang and what lake so when i come up i can hagout and get smoked lol :o| ;)!

machzed....the reason you have to test the exhaust on each header pipe is that not all injectors are created equal, the flow rate of each injector(even though they are the same part )is no always equal,if yours were all set from factory at 0 then yours are very close but what if the next sled is set at 4 different numbers like mine were,i have 2 cylinders at 1,1 at 4 and 1 at 5,ive seen another sled with a -5,1,7 and a 12,the factory sets this number according to your injector flow rate in other words,so if you up each by 10 and they dont all flow the same then your cylinders arent all making peak power, when we adjusted mine we didnt care what number its was on,we set it using an exhaust gas analizer on each cylinder and set the air fuel mixture on all cylinders the same, this is straight from silver certified yamaha training so im not questioning the people that actually built this system when they tell the sliver certified techs how to tune them

i assume they were all set to 0 like mine....I would assume whatever they are at stock you would add 10 or whatver you choose to the original number....to keep them even .

I might end up with mine back at 0 since i never noticed anything bad last season...but i thought id try it,and it does seem good when you crack throttle hard initially,no hesitations whatsoever.

I do totally undertand what you mean...and your method is far more exact then anything....using an anylizer surely is most accurate.

thanks

I really dont like the look of this looking at the sled and want to change this. Either paint it or cover it. I really dont know what to do yet.Does anyone else feel the same way?do u think the waves for lack of better term are there to help with air flo? I hope to figure out something Will have to look at it some more in person

Skinz has a thin plate overlay for the airbox cover.
