Apex idler wheels ?

when you say rear you mean far rear or middle rear?

I don't doubt your logic but my actual experience has been no cracked rails with oversize idlers that were not machined.

You only have to machine the MOUNTS if you use a larger bearing, OEM'S are "6005" 12mm in width, if you use a "6205" which is 15mm in width your 3mm wider so your not going to centre between track cogs on the rear inner idlers and will DEMOLISH them in no time...been their, within 5 miles they were TOAST!

All what I'm trying to say here is to make sure you replace with the same BEARING size on the WIDTH, most DOO & POO idlers run with the wider "6205" while we YAM'S run with "6005" OEM.

whats the amount to take off the wheel mounts? (inner back)
and best way to do it.

thanks

You only have to machine mounts if you use a "6205" type bearing, the size of idler has nothing to do with mounts. Here are a few pic's of my inner rear w/machined mounts...these idlers are YAM 5.125" OEM size w/replaceable "6205" bearings, they have close to 10.000kms and going strong

How do you machine the inner rear. Do you just shave a small amount off on the rail side of the mount? Roughly how much needs to come off? Thanks.

I spun them on a lathe and shaved down 1.5mm on the wheel side of the mount.

Another way is to get a Skidoo wheel mount that accommodates the wider bearing. They use 2 bolts to mount up, which can be stronger than Yamaha's 1.

I used the Doo two hole blocks and their idlers. No wear after 1500 miles what so ever.

I shaved 1.5mm on rail side with the use of a milling press...

remove 1.5mm on the mount for the 6205 bearing only to center inline with track lugs and only need to do this to the 2 rear wheel mounts.

got it.
thanks for the specs guys.

It's been chilly at night here in Norhtern MN also and I'm also really gettin' the itch to ride. To boot, I went to our first snowmobile club meeting for the season last night and everybody there couldn't wait for snow.

We have a chance of frost Sunday morning!

Oops, off topic....idler wheel, back on.
